The muppet at Heartspring's centre.

I do tech things, but I don't often talk about tech things except in my role as perpetual curmudgeon.

I'm generally moopet most places: DEV, IRC, ewtoo, Pixelfed, etc. Places where I was too late to get that name, I'll sometimes go by "muppling".

Follow requests on just so I can filter out the bots.

Oh, and I got shot of the beard when masks became a thing.

@bookstodon I loved the film Paperhouse when I was a kid and always meant to read the children's book it was based on.

Turns out that Marianne Dreams is actually a great read.

@beexcessivelydiverting @bookstodon there're a couple of signs within about 20 miles that say, "welcome to Jane Austen Country" and they're very... interpretive.

I have a 6th-grade (13 years old) student who is at grade level in his reading and does well in English class, but feels unmotivated to read on his own. The only two series he's really gotten into are and Percy Jackson.

Since reading is clearly not a problem for him, I think it's just a matter of finding something new along the fantasy-mythology lines that would appeal to him. Any leads? @bookstodon

@nordicnefilim @figstick @bookstodon in this vein, Susan Cooper is a dated but excellent option.

@figstick @bookstodon Dianna Wynne Jones' Eight Days of Luke has fantasy and mythology, though it's set about 40 years ago and that might be weird for a modern kid

@bookstodon What's your favorite book title, whether you've read it or not?

Mine is EVERYONE ON THE MOON IS ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL, by Julian K. Jarboe, which I have not yet read, followed closely by THEY DON'T MAKE PLUS SIZE SPACESUITS, by Ali Thompson, which I have read.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon easy - the popular science /maths book, "Here's Looking At Euclid".

I'm moving house and have a million books, so I've been cutting down.
New things I pretty much only buy as books anyway, but anything older or sentimental I like having as a physical copy.

Anyway, it turns out there are a lot of those little libraries made out of old phone boxes or whatever near me so I've been spreading the love.

I know in my next place I'll end up buying more old books though...

This year I published my second collection of short stories, and all are eligible for the Nebula Awards. Since nominations are open, please consider my stories! I've provided free reading samples to three of them. I like all the stories, but these three make for splendid holiday reading!

@kristianeleigh @bookstodon I just started the murderbot diaries and also just found out they're being adapted for TV so I'm trying to imagine how that would work...
