Have too many animals. Like camping but not enough to do it multiple times a year.

I've hit a reading rut and haven't read anything good in months.

Any recommendations? I've read a lot of different things, and will read just about any genre. If I have to rank things, I'd say that for me characters > themes > prose > setting > plot.

You can check out my profile or to see some of the works I've enjoyed

Be taught if fortunate - Becky chambers. This one is mostly about exploring a few different planets.
Cinnamon and gunpowder - historical fiction about a captured chef on a pirate ship. He has to cook a fantastic meal once a week to stay alive.
A memory called empire - a new ambassador to the (space Aztec?) empire (who is a bit of a quisling) does some scheming and falling in love in a super futuristic city/world.
None of my descriptions are doing these books justice.

Ok Bookworms, we are past the halfway point of 2023.

3 questions:
-Are you looking forward to reading a specific book?
-How’s your reading been this year?
-What are you reading now?

I’m looking forward to reading The Wager by David Grann (already out) & Ana Turns by Lisa Gornick (Netgalley ARC). My reading this year has just been ok, not meaning the books (those have been good & often great), but rather my time reading. Currently I’m reading Rabbits by Terry Miles & recently started Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier. @bookstodon

Looking forward to Alecto the Ninth by Tamsin Muir (I’ve been loving the series so far but I hope it’s not one that dies by length)
Reading is going well. Lately I signed up for a curated book bag at my local library and some have been quite decent (5-6 books a month)
Currently reading “The Unspoken Name” by A K Larkwood. It’s good, but it turns out I read it already about 3 years ago. I don’t remember much so I’m just getting MASSIVE deja vu.
