@actuallyautistic To all late-(self)diagnosed autists:

Right after my diagnosis I noticed sensory things that were really bugging me. Especially everything regarding sound, light and tactile sense. I kinda wrote that off to "Yeah, you now know you're autistic, of course you just look out for these things."

But as further the diagnosis lies in the past, I continue to notice those things unconcsiously. I start noticing when I'm overwhelmed by sounds, for example. The thing is: I never noticed that all this was overwhelming to me BEFORE my diagnosis. I knew that something was draining energy from me, but I was never really able to tell.

Did you have a similar experience? That only after the diagnosis you actually started to notice that all those sensory issues are actually what is overwhelming to you? That you just didn't get, that they are contributing to your mental drain out?

@vger @actuallyautistic For me, it was when I had to pay attention to my kids triggers that I became aware that yeah, the noise is actually really loud in that place since it's making me grind my teeth. There was even a time when I thought "it's fortunate I don't have their sensory issues, this place must be like hell", never wondering why I was so tired and cranky with the worst headache myself...
