Correct, cuckolded men are well known to first ask their wife’s lover if they knew before attacking them. /s

hessenjunge ,

I’m not taking this personally, don’t project. I’m just amazed how you stubbornly argue against one of the oldest story tropes of all time: the horned, vengeful husband/wife.

The idiots on here firmly believe that nuclear creates zero waste. In their deranged head there is no nuclear waste that will last for longer than humanity existed.

hessenjunge ,

Redd… err Lemmy believes in the doctrine of safe, clean, wasteless nuclear. Even if there was waste it is completely harmless, not a big deal, please look the other way. They can be no other God… I mean viable alternative for generating energy. Also, did you know this straw man … I mean coal spreads nuclear isotopes too?

What is the toxicity and half life / storage requirements for each waste type?

You’re comparing apples to Nazis.

ELI5 for the intellectually challenged downvoting this:

Apple: Ea-nāṣir - one random dude c. 1750 BCE.

Nazis: The OG Nazis 1933 - 1945 that murdered millions of people.

The comparison is incredibly stupid. You might just as well liken a speck of dust to a planet.

Initial answer when the comment had nos source: Source: Trust me bro.

The linked interview has one(!) offhand comment by Abram de Swaan about the alleged practise. The interview is in part to promote his book “The Killing Compartments: The Mentality of Mass Murder.” which of course features Nazi Germany quite a bit. So I went ahead and downloaded said book. The words ‘dog’, ‘puppy’ ,or ‘pet’ are mentioned zero times in the entirety of the book.

Trying to find the book and more sources for the allegation I came up with nothing else.

While “SS-Troops” (idiotic generalisation in this case) like the SS-Totenkopfverbände did many fucked up thinks and would be fucked up enough to feature the alleged dog killings in their training - there is so far no proof whatsoever.

If this were the case it would be in every other movie about WW2. It’s in Kingsmen FFS, where the good guys do this as part of their training.

Sorry, I have to call BS on this one.

Small correction:

“Ich bin bei den Großeltern” → “I’m at my grandparents (or grandparents’)”

“I’m at my grandparents’ place” only exist as “I’m at my grandparents‘ house” → “Ich bin im Haus meiner Großeltern”

hessenjunge ,

Walking through a metal detector will sort that out, no need to remove shoes, etc.

When you compare EU/rest of the world security screening to US ones the farce becomes obvious. Next they’re going to require a half striptease “for security”.

hessenjunge ,

Aren’t there any laws regarding safe gun storage?

hessenjunge ,

Sec. 46.13. (b) (2) left the firearm in a place to which the person knew or should have known the child would gain access.

There is no way that gramps can’t be charged for doing exactly that.

According to 46.13. (e) it is only a class A misdemeanor however. IMO this should be treated as a felony.

hessenjunge , (edited )

Which of these apply to the situation needs to be decided by a court, right?

Let’s try a different situation: the loaded gun is locked up in a cupboard. The child knows about the gun and the key. The key is easily accessible to the child.

Do you think the law applies in this case?

hessenjunge ,

The law defines secure as follows:

46.13 3)

“Secure” means to take steps that a reasonable person would take to prevent the access to a readily dischargeable firearm by a child, including but not limited to placing a firearm in a locked container or temporarily rendering the firearm inoperable by a trigger lock or other means.

How do you see the described situation matching that description?

hessenjunge ,

… to take steps that a reasonable person would take …

How is that a step a reasonable person would take?

And how would that be a reasonable interpretation of the law?

hessenjunge ,

No reasonable person considers a box locked or secure when the keys are right next to it.

You would not consider your money safe in a lockbox under the same condition.

Arguing otherwise is quite obviously bad faith.

hessenjunge ,

definition “steps a reasonable person would make” includes “in a locked container.”

No, it’s not. The locked container is just one of the examples for steps a reasonable person could take. The emphasis of the wording is clear.

The way in which you try to twist the wording is another display of bad faith arguing.

hessenjunge ,

You are trying beyond all reason to misinterpret what ‘reasonable person’ means and in extension what can reaonably be called securely locked. It’s gotten pretty outlandish.

The document you linked is a very interesting read as it takes stock of currently existing law and attempts to clear up question you might have about implementation. It states as such in several places on page 1. Page 4 indeed clears up what can be considered what a ‘reasonable person’ or ‘average Joe’ has to do to properly store a weapon.

Since you also attack the legal concept of ‘reasonable person’: The reasonable person is a hypothetical individual who exercises average caution, care, and judgment in their conduct.

So unless there’s a lot of lead in the water, the average person would not leave keys to a lockbox that contains valuables or dangerous items that allows someone else, let alone an 8yo have access to it.

Your geography lesson for today is (Google) mapping a route from Brest to Menton (France) and compare it to the route posted by OP.

hessenjunge ,

Your geography lesson for today is to map 2 routes across the EU and compare them to your statement.

  1. Map the longest route across the continental EU.
  2. Connect the farthest points of France by way of Paris and compare it to the distance between Hawaii and New York. (Hint: Start is in South America or the Caribbean and finish is in the Pacific. )
hessenjunge ,

I, a German, am also struggling with travel times/distances in Britain.

Me: (looks at map) I should be there in 1h tops.

Hours pass…

Me: I’m only half way there? WTF!

‘Romeo & Juliet’ Play Starring Tom Holland and Francesca Amewaduh-Rivers Faces ‘Barrage of Racial Abuse,’ Producer Says ‘This Must Stop’ (variety.com)

The Jamie Lloyd Company has hit back after its production of Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet” has been the subject of what they call a “barrage of deplorable racial abuse” aimed at an unnamed cast member....

hessenjunge ,

Do you have any source whatsoever backing your claim Shakespeares Romeo was not of similar age as Juliet?

hessenjunge ,

I took the time to google the claim and it’s bullshit.

One of the source materials of Shakespeare mentions his soft skin and lack of facial hair which would mean he’s younger than 15.

I would stick with the original play: Shakespeare died not mention his age but he is acting less mature than Juliet.

hessenjunge ,

You keep repeating the claim that Romeo was not of similar age as Juliet yet there is no evidence for it.

hessenjunge ,

Not that the skin tone matters much but you’ve obviously never been to northern Italy.

hessenjunge ,

The place has been called Italia since at least 49BC

hessenjunge ,

They were. The place was called Italia before Romans set foot on British soil.

hessenjunge ,

Probably some Northern Italians taking offense at the incorrect generalism about their skin tone?

hessenjunge ,

Honestly, I think the play would gain if they added racism as additional reason for the enmity between the 2 families. I’d be astonished if this hasn’t happened before.

hessenjunge ,

This thread is about the literary Romeo, not a specific actor.

hessenjunge ,

I’d be astonished if this hasn’t happened before.

I’d be even more astonished if that was the only piece inspired by Romeo & Juliet.

Also I would be totally floored if the story of Romeo & Juliet was inspired by an older predecessor or predecessors going back at least to Ancient Greece.

My situation was similar a couple of weeks ago. I had to either buy a new car or dump a couple of thousands on my then car (which is still good for at least a decade).

I did test drive a Tesla though as to have a ‘baseline’ for the other contenders. I did buy a different electric car just as planned but I’m glad I did the baseline.

BTW - just a heads up: make sure you check the headroom on the back seats of any EV you fancy. I might have bought a Kia EV6 if I didn’t bump my head in the ceiling in the back - and I’m of average height.

hessenjunge , (edited )

I’m afraid they won’t. When I was a Student I had a summer job at Mercedes assembling cars. At the time cars sent to the US needed bigger airbags - you’d think it’d be less error prone at negligible extra cost to just equip all cars with the bigger airbags but they didn’t.

If they can save a couple of cents by having less buttons they’ll have less buttons.

hessenjunge ,
  1. Just think about the logistics involved ensuring the correct airbag is slotted. You don’t want to be sued in the US because someone got hurt or killed because the airbag was not up to spec. The damage to the brand would be bad too. Any way, it’s not as simple as just plugging in one thing or the other.
  2. You could absolutely have the same wiring on both versions and just slot in different front ends (button/buttonless). I recall a couple of cases for that as well - e.g. wiring for a (DAB) antenna that is not in every version of the car or hard drives where the capacity is defined by the firmware (though having identical hardware)
hessenjunge , (edited )

You’ll have a touch screen either way and it’s possible that the functions of the buttons are available on some app too.

Just as basically all cars except current Teslas do.

I think the EU would be doing Tesla a favor if they force them to add physical controls to switch between D, R, N, P.

Edit: The current Tesla Model 3 should comply with the new rule (not 100% sure about hazard lights).

hessenjunge ,

According to Wikipedia it’s weight:

US regulation FMVSS 208 requires that bags be engineered and calibrated to be able to “save” the life of an unbelted 50th-percentile size and weight “male” dummy.

Assuming the regulation in the EU is similar and given that US average weight/BMI is higher than European average US airbags need to be bigger.

hessenjunge ,

In my country I’m only aware of statistics published by a newspaper (source may be statista, some agency or a job portal). I find the values weird however as I earn way above the stated value for my general description. I’m in a bit of a niche however so that might work to my benefit. The statistics still feel like ‘expectation management’ to me though.

hessenjunge ,

I like the idea of a register a lot.

Do you also talk about it though? I was in Denmark on business for a couple of weeks and I don’t recall there being a discussion about it.
