- finally got to "the modem world," @kdriscoll's brilliant lost history of the early internet & pre-WWW BBS multiverse, & how its forgotten protocols made non-corporate spaces for both (s) & unaffiliated users. if you're into and/or (& how the present reflects it), i recommend. it might be the most mastodonian book ever? also, the title font does proustian things to me. https://yalebooks.yale.edu/book/9780300248142/the-modem-world/ @bookstodon

One thing remains: email mailing lists still fulfil the function of BBSs (which were a fine example of private enterprise socialism) and you can still get free ones at https://groups.io
