@juergen_hubert @germany @folklore I studied Christopher Marlowe's version for an English Literature course, probably back in 2000 or so. One thing that stood out was when Mephastopholese shows him Helen of Troy and he says, "Is this the face that launched a thousand ships?"

The professor said there were two ways to do this scene. One is to play it straight and have Helen of Troy be beautiful and Faust be enamored. The other is to have Helen be ugly, and Faust's line be delivered incredulously.
