I talk about autism a lot on here, but I have never discussed it with any of my family. I don't know if they even know. I'm guessing they do because they like to spy on my social media and then gossip about it though. Either way, I have never discussed it with them.

Do you disclose to family or friends? Or do you keep it to yourself? Is it different for people who grew up knowing as opposed to people who are late diagnosed? Do you think it varies by country and locality?

@actuallyautistic @JeremyMallin my best friends know, as does my husband, as well as some good friends in a discord server I have been a member of for almost a decade. Otherwise, I mask and don’t generally talk about it irl. Where I live, the expectation is that you mask as much as possible if you are able to, and a lot of people will do that thing where they dismiss any mention of neurodivergence and exclaim, “oh but you seem perfectly normal!” like being anything other than neurotypical is shameful and unwanted. People who are in need of high levels of support are viewed as second class citizens and people will routinely pretend they can’t see you if you are stimming while out in public, while simultaneously moving as far away as possible!
