If the adults are unwilling to protect a dying man from the Devil, then it falls to a child to rise up to the challenge.

@juergen_hubert @germany @folklore @deidungeon not so much unwilling as unable to see. Only an innocent youth unburdened by experience could see the devil coming.

I've been trying to learn German for years but progress is glacially slow. Sometimes it's like trying to nail water to the wall; it just doesn't stick. Anyone else with an , or diagnosis have issues with second language acquisition? Is it a neurodivergent 'thing'?
Or is it simply that I'm not very good at picking up languages?

@Richard_Littler @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd I find two problems when learning German coming from English:

  • articles have genders, and I almost always get the gender wrong.
  • conjugating verbs is inherently complex, as modern German is a result of forcing Latin type rules into a Germanic language.

That said, just remember that Mark Twain also said that Germain deserves to be a dead language, because only the dead have enough patience to learn it.

@snakebite @Richard_Littler @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd I learnt German in Bayreuth, in Oberfranken (Upper Franconia). There most words are in the diminutive form thanks to the “-la” ending (think “-chen" in regular German).

So now, thirty years later, it's still “Männla" for me instead of "Mann”.

Oh yeah, and another thing: entspann dich, Alter. 😎 Ich bin fei 35 Jahren hier in Bayern und Franken, ich kann es. Aber a weng Humor über die Probleme darf ma schon haben, gell?

If you've ever wondered what it's like being autistic with ADHD, it's a bit like this for me. (I always assumed everybody thought like this).

@Richard_Littler @actuallyautistic I see myself in both sides, though I know less Grateful Dead. And I've gotten to the point where if someone says "write it down" I torture them by actually writing, and forcing them to actually talk to me instead of monologuing.

Don't force a filter on me. Filters mean I miss the gorilla when asked to count the number of times the ball is passed between people. (Which I'm too distracted to actually see anyways)

The household of the Ducal stablemaster in Coburg was once haunted by a strange spirit that looked indistinguishable from the stablemaster's wife.

@juergen_hubert @germany @folklore @deidungeon this is a good template for a supernatural Evil Twin disadvantage in GURPS. And knowing Coburg, a story that I enjoyed reading.

@juergen_hubert @germany @folklore I have, actually. Last year, when hiking through Berchtesgaden. It's typical alpine spring water, and very refreshing.

Sometimes you discover that your partner's relationship goals differ from your own.

It's okay to break up under such circumstances, but that doesn't mean you should be a jerk about it.

@juergen_hubert @germany @folklore echoes of Lohengrin and of other protagonists under a geas. Also of many fairies: "You did this one kind thing that breaks my vow, so I will leave forever!"
