auzy , to news in Google pulls the plug on uBlock Origin, leaving over 30 million Chrome users susceptible to intrusive ads

Moved to Firefox years ago. I wish they could diversify their income though

auzy , to technology in Justice Department considering push for historic break up of Google after landmark antitrust ruling: report

It won’t. It simply benefits Apple and Amazon who should have been broken up a decade ago

Amazon literally has had a mostly worldwide monopoly

Don’t forget that the right wing has a hard-on for Google. People like them are Apple’s target market (I guarantee their families were the first to get iPads) and don’t forget their really warped questions during the congressional hearings which demonstrated that they had done absolutely no research and had a huge inherent bias. Stupid questions like “if I walk 3m to the right, can you guys see that”. Or, why does president Trump come up as the first hit on Google for loser

I support this, but only if it happens to all 3 companies simultaneously . Otherwise, we’re just transferring more power to Apple (who honestly have followed some Trump style tactics over the last 25 years)

I get the idea behind a duopoly, but from an economics and game theory point of view, but, if applied unequally, another monopoly will simply take advantage.

auzy , (edited ) to memes in I think she over thought it...

Hell nah. Give it a go.

I started a Meetup group a few years ago as a hobby despite no formal training. My group has now outlived many others and I’m surprised by how many people I meet on hikes who have heard of my group and actually listen to my advice these days.

Don’t forget about the guy either who ran an ultra marathon with no real training here in Australia and ended up winning . Turned out his goofy style of running was actually more efficient than normal jogging.

I know someone who is the world record holder for highest gym class She absolutely deserved it. She’s not nims, but she gave it a shot

I know a lady with Parkinson’s who is a cross fit champ. People like you would tell her she should give up

As long as you’re safe and not a danger to others, definitely give things a shot.

auzy , to fediverse in Spreading of the 100 biggest Lemmy communities

In my case, I went to the biggest one after leaving beehaw.

I left beehaw because it was clear there was a double standard for one admin between minorities and the rest of us where an admin overlooked someone from a minority acting like a total ass and starting a fight… and blamed me simply because my opinion half agreed with an article that was posted.

Which was such a pity because they other admin there is awesome (and I loved the idea of the instance), but I’m worried it will become a echo chamber eventually unfortunately where you simply can’t discuss things, but only agree with people

auzy , to noncredibledefense in Stolen from Mastodon

It’s hard to know…

But don’t forget that Russia thought they’d seize Ukraine quickly. They haven’t. Even if they “win”, it will be a shit show and they won’t be able to keep it

I also have a Russian coworker who joined the Company after the war and he was embarrassed about Russia. I seriously doubt most of their soldiers are motivated to fight

auzy , to til in TIL that Germany created synthetic butter from coal during WW2. It was described as nutritious and of agreeable taste.

Given how many people here in Australia love to suck up to coal and petrol companies, I suspect they would want to

auzy , to world in People leave New Zealand in record numbers as economy bites

Just to play devils advocate though… awesome people and awesome country.

I’ve always wondered if I’d rather live there and be poor honestly than live here in Australia (which is basically at least 50% redneck at this point)

auzy , to memes in When meme meets real world…

Anyone else sick of hearing about this?

I don’t care about the person who said it (no idea why she’s constantly getting interviewed and such), and it was only slightly funny to begin with.

auzy , to memes in I think she over thought it...

At least she gave things a try, unlike most people

Raise your hands if you’ve been in the Olympics…

Me and my mates so stupid stuff all the time just to mess around… It’s better to try something and fail then not try at all. And she’ll have a great pub story

auzy , (edited ) to technology in Patreon: adding Apple’s 30 percent tax is the price of staying in the App Store

Yep. Totally agree.

I only ended up with a Mac because edge kept hijacking my chrome tabs every reboot

But, it costs far more than a PC, and honestly, the hardware capabilities are worse

At least the M3 chips I think now have ray tracing. But still no nested VT so I can’t even run the windows android emulator in parallels

Also, I keep coming across weird Mac os bugs with windows handling and device handling

I actually used to sell them. And got in an argument with a national sales manager over running windows on them. Apple released boot camp a week later and suddenly he returned to repeat the same arguments I used against him. Never got an apology

auzy , to technology in Patreon: adding Apple’s 30 percent tax is the price of staying in the App Store

There are so many android devices out there that don’t even use the Google Play store…

In fact, you’re not even allowed to use Google services and play store in China and I thought Samsung ships their own store don’t they?

Windows uses Amazon appstore for Android too

A lot of Android roms likely use different app stores too

In contrast, Apple has 1 store. And when pebble was released before their own watch, they delayed adding the app to the store 3 weeks which basically killed them.

You can also disable play store on pixel phones (I just checked).

Short of advertising competing app stores front page or offering to install them, not sure what else they can do?

auzy , to pcgaming in Intel Battlemage GPU has surfaced in the wild — GPU spotted with 24 Xe2 cores, 19 Gbps memory, 12GB VRAM, 192-bit bus

After screwing over all the CPU owners, I can safely say I’ll pass…

They don’t seem to be taking the CPU fixing seriously

auzy , to technology in Patreon: adding Apple’s 30 percent tax is the price of staying in the App Store

You don’t have to use the Google store though.

Apple forces you to the their app store, and they have a huge list of requirements they impose on apps to which dicks around developers

auzy , to technology in Custom ROMs have had just about enough of being Android's second-class citizens

There is another side to this coin though,

Android roms took googles work. The community could have assisted with other mobile os systems like Firefox OS or Ubuntu mobile but didn’t.

Instead ROM developers wanted a cookie cutter solution.

In practice, Android is actually fairly open. Republicans have a weird obsession with Google (remember that weird hearing where they clearly didn’t understand technology). You can even disable the inbuilt apps

This could lead to a situation like windows where 50 popups are added. It’s could backfire and it benefits Apple a lot. That’s what I’m concerned about. I’m worried that I’ll end up paying for Gmail or more for Android. And Google will get blamed for it

auzy , to news in Trump campaign confirms security breach, blames Iran

He’s getting bad press at the moment and Trump probably thinks that’s why he’s losing

He basically needs a paperweight who is a VP who gets no attention
