Surprise: Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki has failed to retire a fourth time (www.theverge.com)

The Boy and the Heron, Hayao Miyazaki’s first feature film in a decade, probably won’t be his last after all. Studio Ghibli executive Junichi Nishioka told CBC News that not only does he not feel like retiring anymore, he’s actively coming into work to create yet another film.

He probably feels tired and the pains of old age and thinks “this can’t last much longer. Better stop now and not leave unfinished work. “ But it then goes for long enough for him to get bored and feel he’s wasting time, so off he goes.

Can’t be easy. We never know when we actually have to stop. Probably better to just keep going until the end.

Here in Portugal it felt less hot than the last couple of years. Still hotter than what it used to be when I was younger.

If Musk doesn’t learn to play ball, the us government might well take control of the tech for the remainder of the war. Geopolitics is the game that is played with all the pieces.

Yes. The Japanese prosecutorial system is very peculiar and suspect in its rate of success in courts.

The quality of shows they are outputting is quite worrying. They think they can get away without writers continuous input and it shows.

Netflix in particular I’ve gone from following many shows to only a few.

Reddit users are reporting Christian websites for violating Virginia's new porn identification law, citing vulgar passages in the Bible (www.insider.com)

As more and more states pass laws targeting "pornographic material" in books and online, they are repeatedly running up against a problem: The Bible has not just a few passages that could be considered indecent

How do you deal with being broke?

I’m in my 30s so I should be used to this by now, but this shit is getting so stressful guys. I have no savings, my checking account is drained every month with rent, and if there’s ever a serious emergency I have no safety net, I’m legitimately fucked. I’m one unplanned expense away from absolute ruin. Those in the same...

I’d call it Stone Age, but I imagine Stone Age men had a more sensible take on the genders.

They went to the stock chart, picked the latest peak, and wrote the article of doom. It’s down 20% a year ago, but up 20% for the last 6 months, and up 119% YTD.

Not that Tesla doesn’t have its ills or seems to be stagnating, but picking points in a chart is a feeble argument.

It was definitely not obvious that early.

IMF didn’t force anything. Argentina needed money and money comes with strings attached in terms of economic reforms.

I would suggest the Russians have never had a greater interest in controlling a US president than right now. Given how disastrous a Trump win would be, this is not the time for positivism and certainties. Anything could happen.

Since they know the evidence for it is definite, I imagine they don’t want to say something that will be countered by the courts. At the same time, you normalize it by declaring it without fear in the hopes the voting base will buy that it’s no big deal.

At this point I can’t imagine Trump’s legal strategy is anything beyond taking power, and then keeping it.

The world is always cyclical. There is always a return to conflict and friction. And given that the globalized world has shifted and mixed so many, I think we’re definitely brewing some nice widespread instability which will, in time, give way to a new form of stability. Whether it’ll better than what we have now is the main question. Seems unlikely, but it always does.

Macron's bid to join BRICS summit signals rift with G7 - Expert (www.the-star.co.ke)

With Reddit shutting down its API setting a precedent in the corporate tech world (and Reddit was a major outlier in that a ton of their users are technical minded and support third party clients, YouTube does not have that kind of userbase and will not get backlash for it), Twitter doing whatever the fuck they’re doing, and...

Thousands of authors demand payment from AI companies for use of copyrighted works (www.cnn.com)

Thousands of authors demand payment from AI companies for use of copyrighted works::Thousands of published authors are requesting payment from tech companies for the use of their copyrighted works in training artificial intelligence tools, marking the latest intellectual property critique to target AI development.

anewbeginning ,

AI isn’t doing anything creative. These tools are merely ways to deliver the information you put into it in a way that’s more natural and dynamic. There is no creation happening. The consequence is that you either pay for use of content, or you’ve basically diminished the value of creating content and potentiated plagiarism at a gargantuan level.

Being that this “AI” doesn’t actually have the capacity for creativity, if actual creativity becomes worthless, there will be a whole lot less incentive to create.

The “utility” of it right now is being created by effectively stealing other people’s work. Hence, the court cases.

Both developers have created a parrot tool. A utility to plagiarise a style.

Don’t imagine for a second that Reddit is done pissing off its users. All it takes for lemmy to win is keep improving reliability and usability.
