As others said Switzerland. It’s beautiful and all but really expensive. It really took away a big part of fun when I went there. But not only that, I thought the swiss people seemed sometimes kinda "rude"or maybe a better word for it “cold” and a little annoyed if it came to tourists. I get it, it’s a small county and a lot of people are visiting each year, but it still wasn’t fun for me to be there and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone to go there.

And North France near the German border like Strasbourg. The city and the region is beautiful as well, but the people are often like the cliché everybody knows and that sucks if you’re a tourist. But the south of France like Marseille and the Provence is always worth a visit. The people are chill, enjoying life in the typical mediterranean way and are often friendlier (and often speak English at least in the bigger cities/tourist areas).

Then you should visit south europe. Europe is divided by the alps in a lot of things, like potato or tomato as main ingredient in meals. But also in culture itself. Everything north of the alps is kinda cold and seems unhappy/angry and stressed all the time and south of it people seem chill, happy and friendly.

As mentioned by other commentators, negative, emotional news sell the best and the news nearly perfected this method during the last couple of years. Yes, it isn’t as good as pre pandemic times, but it’s not the worst. For me it really helped to limit my news time to max. once a day (like in the past with the newspaper in the morning or a news show in the evening) and watching things called “good news”. In Germany some TV shows have this category so I never searched it on social media or YouTube, but I bet there are some channels/pages dedicated to good news (like there is a new treatment for disease XY or here is a good step in the fight against climate change, but sometimes just news like “the big panda isn’t as endangered as it was”.

Wouldn’t it be funny, if that would end the doom scroll cause suddenly it’s a disturbance and can’t be skipped like other non liked content, so it breaks the trance and leaves the user with anger instead of numbness?

I guess you’re right, but especially Instagram for me is something that relies on this numbness doom scrolling comes with. Every other thing has another driver. Like YT or Twitch is something for entertainment like TV, so (semi) active watching stuff, Facebook and twitter (now X) is something to get angry about, but Instagram is unsatisfying scrolling without knowing why. But why let it stop here and there, if it breaks this drooled scrolling. And if you’re in need of this feeling, there is also tiktok (as of right know, until the unstoppable ads are profitable).

If you don’t have much time to spare I would recommend to wait a little more. It would still be a big support if you buy it at full price in fall.

Just to explain it maybe a little: the German far right party has a rethorical mixture of 3. Reich speeches (damn autocorrect) and modern US republicans. And the people supporting them have the same mindset and fact denial maga fans have.

Not only this, they cut the budget starting 2025 by a lot and only productions with >400k on their own will be qualified to apply for a state funding. Cause that will be a good reason for each state (Bundesland) to rise their funding (Berlin has some millions and Hessen 260k/year funding budget). Or at least that was one of the arguments to cut the state budget.

Wasn’t it that COVID came as a surprise for most scientists cause they bet on avian flu viruses? So it isn’t any new info and a fear they’ve had for quite some time now.

I heard from a guy from the German COVID watch (RKI), that the probability for a new epidemic is around 2.x% each year and around 1.x% for a pandemic. That’s why there is a big epidemic around every 30-50 years and a pandemic every 80-100 years. What type of virus will be the next big thing is nothing but a guess and often wrong (like COVID out of nowhere), cause it’s difficult to predict the next mutation of a virus. That’s also why a lot of flu vaccines in the past didn’t have the effect they hoped for (mostly it’s still a very good vaccine!).

Even if bitcoin wasn’t just a pyramid scheme and all but right now there are 900 new bitcoins each day, after the next halfing around the corner it’s still 450/day. So each day there will be more new bitcoin then he would buy in 1 year. Even the easiest numbers don’t add up even if he is just a 40yr cryptobro Trump version.

I know how bitcoin works. But this cap of 21m will be around 2100 or even later if the mining power stays the same as today. So nobody reading this post will be alive around that time. And the same for El Salvador. Should all the people alive right now suffer, cause in around 100 years a theory of a new way for money could succeed? (And no, I don’t think bitcoin will ever be more than money laundering and daytraiding craziness ending in more money for the people laundering)

Nope. I don’t know exactly why but it seems that e.g. a trans man is more likely to die in a stupid accident like driving a motorcycle without a helmet at 200km/h and vice versa. It isn’t much of a medicine aspect and more of a lifestyle one.

That is the whole insurance business. It is nothing but a bet if you look at it by a single policy. E.g. your insurance bets you’ll probably die at 70, so when you hit 71 you paid more than you get when you die. Your insurance wins. But when you die at 55 you “win” the bet. But because there isn’t just one but thousands of policies those bets aren’t bets anymore, they’re nothing but statistics. And one part is keeping track and calculating how old people born in year xy, in country … with the gender zxy are going to be.

As sad as it is I think you’re right. The same was said about facebook and even though they had a bumpy road it’s bigger than ever before. Nothing being sold at the stock market follows any logical rules, it’s so much emotion that sells stuff. And as long as it makes money, nobody cares about racism or pedophilia or any other bad thing. I thought that’s why we hate capitalism that much.

Hope this helps a little and just fyi Im from Germany, so maybe some things are cheap for me but not for you :(

First thing try using the same spices for a lot of dishes and you'll save a lot of money! I thought the spices were the worst money burner when I moved out.

Some good and cheap dishes for me were stuff like

  • fried rice: cook rice and let it cool down, chop some ginger, garlic, onions and put it in a pan with a little oil. After 1-2min add vegetables you like and you'll come by cheap (frozen is as good as fresh). Add rice and if you like some eggs and stuff like ham. Everything turns out delicious if you use soy sauce.
  • spaghetti arrabiata: it's just spicy tomato sauce with noodles and if you like cheese. If you have the money to buy arrabiata spices, do it (I think it's great for pizza sauce or a quick bolognese).
  • spaghetti alio e olio: it's noodles with oil and garlic
  • peanut rice noodles: add peanut butter, soy sauce, rice vinegar and hot sauce together, put aside and cook some rice noodles and some veggies. If everything is cooked, put everything in a bowl and add the peanut sauce. I eat it at least 2x a month (if you like add garlic and/or ginger to the sauce)
  • if you know how to do a yeast dough, cheap dishes are easy. If you can do the dough yourself pizza is cheap as hell, but also filled stuff like fake dumplings. If you do it on the sweet side, you'll have some bready and caky stuff (and this kind of dough is great for a freezer)
  • if you're short on time but not exactly on money try stews and soups. You can add nearly everything you have at home and let it cook and you can eat like at least a week from it

Edit: One dish I like and just want to add is spaghetti carbonara. It's not quiet cheap but super easy to make: Cook noodles (spaghetti), meanwhile mix 1 full egg and 2-3 egg yolks for around 2 people with around 200g parmesan (or 100g parmesan and 100g parmigianino). Fry bacon cubes (pig belly is the best). When the noodles are done add some noodle water (it won't taste salty even if you put a lot of salt in the water) to the cheese egg mix and put the noodles in the pan with the bacon, turn off the heat and add cheese-egg mix to the pan, but be aware that the pan isn't hot anymore, you don't want the eggs to boil.

Just keep looking at the list. Payday 3 is also there. A publisher known for maybe a worse dlc and microtransaction policy than EA with the Sims, but it seems that doesn’t matter a bit.

For me Skyrim, The Witcher 3, botw and all souls games.

Skyrim never clicked, it just felt buggy and empty and punishing. Trying to climb that mountain just so a yeti can beat you up? Great, here is your save spot form 15 min earlyer, please try again. I know that’s why it’s fun for so many, I just hated it.

The Witcher 3 was too… much dialogue. Most of the time I can play 1-3 hours every couple of days. And in the Witcher you walk 15min through beautiful but otherwise empty forest, killing 1-15 something, walk back and talk like another 15min with the guy who gave you the quest. It’s really deep worldbuilding, but when you don’t have a lot of time it’s more “damn, what happend last?” 5min walking “ah, that happened” takes new quest, so much talking…“ah damn, my hour is gone, so I finish the quest another time.” PC off.

Botw cause the world felt empty and everything broke in an instant and I’m the player ending with 50 healing potions, 10 big scrolls and so on cause MaYbE I’ll need it another time. Doesn’t match with botw. TotK is so much better handling this, cause you can craft any good item in an instant.

And Souls Games are just a broken mess. They’re not hard by default, they’re hard cause of all the buggy and mushy controls. It never feels crisp, it’s just a big blob and maybe your character rolls or maybe it feels like an invisible wall, who knows. Games like Jedi Fallen Order in hard mode or Hollow Knight were so much more fun, cause the controls were crisp and everytime I lost, it was because of me. I did wrong and not some squishi spaghetti code.
