ValueSubtracted OP , to startrek in Interview: Dan And Kevin Hageman On How ‘Star Trek: Prodigy’ Season 2 Is Different, And What May Come Next
@ValueSubtracted@startrek.website avatar

Regarding a third season, I know you have said it’s possible. What is your level of confidence? Is this now just like any other show on Netflix awaiting a season pickup if it does well?

Kevin Hageman: I would guess more than doing well. We don’t know anything about season 3 yet. But what from what I see of Netflix when they do pickup shows for a season 3, which is very rare, it’s not about doing well, it has to do gangbusters.

Dan Hageman: Most things only get 2 seasons.

Kevin Hageman: I think it’s going to be a real challenge. And I think it has to be bigger than just the Star Trek audience watching it as much as they can. It’s about breaking into kids who are [not already fans]

Dan Hageman: But let’s also put it into perspective. Lower Decks is five seasons, but those seasons are 10 episodes. Ours is 20 episodes. We got 40 episodes. It’s a lot of content out there. So it kind of comes down to: are there large watch-throughs of the season? Where’s the appetite? Do people want more Prodigy? Obviously, Kevin and I want more Prodigy. But happy with how we left things off at the end of the season 2. We feel like there’s a nice place to stop, but also a new adventure to pick up if we want to.

Kevin Hageman: Doing a show like this is not cheap, doing 20 episodes. So, my hope is we get a great-sized audience, but if it’s not big enough to warrant another season, there’s always option B. Which would be, let’s do a 90-minute animated film, the sequel which could start the film franchise.

Personally, I prefer option 1, if enough people are going to participate.

But my takes will be lukewarm by then, at best…

At this point, I’m giving up on the linear channels, and am keeping my attention on the app.

Of course, the app doesn’t seem to contain information about what’s “coming soon,” so the season might just…appear there one day.

I think the secret to its success is that it puts narrative first, which makes it adaptable to all sorts of Star Trek nonsense.

I just wish the rulebook didn’t embrace that ethos quite as much as it does!

It is a pretty gorgeous book - my biggest complaint is that it can be hard to quickly find and reference specific rules during gameplay. I’m hopeful that the Second Edition will have some imrpovements on that front.

I’m intrigued by Gwyn’s uniform - it looks almost, but not quite, Starfleet-issue.

Well, there was the FASA game from the 80s, and Decipher had one in the 2000s.

Modiphius is the current license-holder, and has published both the First Edition under discussion here, and has a Second Edition coming out later this year.

Either way, their dimensions are so different that I guess it would be pretty hard to determine which has the greater internal volume.

Yeah, as recently as June 4, Prodigy-related content on StarTrek.com said the following in the footer:

Star Trek: Prodigy Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix outside of markets including Canada where it is available on CTV.ca and the CTV App, France on France Televisions channels and Okoo, in Iceland on Sjonvarp Simans Premium, as well as on SkyShowtime in the Nordics, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Central and Eastern Europe.

This latest announcement says:

Star Trek: Prodigy will stream on Netflix globally (excluding Canada, Nordics, CEE, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Belarus and Mainland China) and Season 1 is currently available on SkyShowtime in the Nordics, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Central and Eastern Europe with Season 2 coming soon. Season two has launched in France on France Televisions channels and Okoo.

They’ve completely dropped the CTV reference, even though season 1 is still available there.
