Americanists, can you recommend a standard history of the early Virginia colony? I'm seeking context as I begin work on an edition of a novel partially set there, and while I can certainly gather a list of texts, I'd love to know what consider to be a solid place to start. Thanks!

For teaching, the anthology The English Literatures of America: 1500-1800, eds. Myra Jehlen & Michael Warner.
