women are going to start saying they won’t match with guys who aren’t subscribing to this. I guarantee it.

I assume they’ll eventually just pay women to chat with these men.

Toribor , to technology in A new smartphone again? Rethink unhealthy culture of frequent upgrades
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

Batteries are the biggest culprit for this even beyond software support. They degrade predictably over time… thus they are disposable. But with no way to replace them on most phones that means the entire device is disposable.

People aren’t paid for how hard they work, they are paid for the value they produce. Do CEO’s produce 350 times the value of other employees? Also probably not.

Toribor , to asklemmy in For those who work in companies that subscribe users to emails, when users unsubscribe, what portion of them say they "never signed up for this"?
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

I think some of the data in the reports that people subscribe to is only useful for a limited time window, and then eventually people are getting weekly emails with information they no longer need (or is no longer valid). People then unsubscribe to the entire ‘report’ notification type instead of the individual report. Ideally development will make that easier to manage within the product in the future.

Best case scenario: They forget about whatever product you like and it’s allowed to continue running for years with zero updates.

Most likely scenario: They kill it off to merge into another product line that overlaps with a third of the features only to do the exact same thing again within a year or two.

I work at a small SaaS company that sells software to Higher Ed. Our marketing email is entirely separate from our product email. The marketing emails are a nuisance and I don’t have a lot of info on them. The product emails I have to monitor the bounce rate and complaint rate to keep our email reputation up and ensure deliverability.

People still check the box that they didn’t sign up for email even though every email sent out of the product is opt-in. I assume it’s usually because someone’s boss decided they needed to get a specific email report or something.

Our complaint rate is still super low though, lower than .01%.

Toribor , to moviesandtv in Martin Scorsese urges filmmakers to fight comic book movie culture: ‘We’ve got to save cinema’
@Toribor@corndog.social avatar

‘Cinema’ as Scorsese knows it probably really is dead. When people go to a movie theater they typically want spectacle to justify the price tag.

I’m all in favor of thought provoking artistic original movies that challenge my perspective but I rarely decide to chance a trip to the theater for that sort of film.

I was mad about the Biden administration’s approach to the rail strike too but you should know that the administration continued to negotiate after ending the strike to get workers the benefits they deserved while also avoiding the devastating impact of a strike.

The doors in HHGTTG are extremely satisfied to perform their job. They are very happy to open and close for you and let out a very small happy sigh when completing their tasks.

Imagine if you took a nasty dump and the toilet let out a satisfied “Ahhhhhhh…”

I assume they want you to pay THEM for positive reviews, not someone else. Yelp sucks.
