Warframe and grime.

The update coming to warframe mid October solves a lot of qol issues and should make it one of the bets mmorpg grind game.

Tibert ,

What are you talking about. Your country isn’t an example of all europe.

In France the prices are extremely low for pretty much unlimited sms.

In other countries too. There are however disparities between countries and their prices.

Tibert ,

Well I noticed a difference between duckduckgo and Ecosia, both taking results from Bing. Not sure if it’s the language setting, or something else.

If you don’t want to read through all of this, here is a shortened version by chatgpt :

The author presents a thought-provoking perspective on the impact of Microsoft’s approach to computing. They suggest that Microsoft’s products tend to obscure the inner workings of computers, contributing to a sense of mystification among users. Error messages that lack meaningful explanations and a heavy reliance on graphical user interfaces are highlighted as factors that deter users from understanding the technology they use.

Moreover, the author argues that the Microsoft ecosystem discourages users from exploring alternatives and gaining a deeper understanding of computer systems. Vendor lock-in and a reluctance to delve into the underlying principles of software and technology are seen as barriers to users becoming more versatile and informed computer users.

In essence, the author contends that Microsoft’s ecosystem fosters a perception of computer use as something magical and impenetrable, making it difficult to retrain users once they have adopted this mindset. They suggest that an alternative approach, emphasizing text-based communication with computers and exposing users to different options, could lead to a more informed and adaptable user base.

This viewpoint encourages us to consider the impact of user interfaces and software ecosystems on users’ perceptions and abilities when it comes to technology. It underscores the importance of promoting digital literacy and encouraging users to explore and understand the technology they rely on.

I have no real idea, only suppositions :

(I’m not treating Ukraine as the enemy, this is a full supposition).

The real hard part is costs and time. If the soldiers pushed the front lines, and there is no risk of enemy attacks behind the line, there can be multiple things in the way :

The terrain may not always be good for fast travel. With difficult terrains or mud and water.

And because front lines aren’t perfect, there is always the risk of enemy attack behind, destroying supplies.

Now why exactly Russia did not send supplies to their soldiers, no real idea. They only know what they chose to do.

Ukraine is huge, giant. Going up to the front lines takes time and money. And well I very much guess that Russia just sent soldiers without care, maybe even now they doing that. They underestimated Ukrakne’s defenses and the support they get from other countries.

Good thing I can block them just from their post. Some Lemmy apps are cool.

(on Liftoff i can, on thunder I can’t).

Ecosia adds Microsoft Clarity and optional Google search results and advertising (www.ecosia.org)

Ecosia adds “contractually forced” Microsoft Clarity tracking (learn.microsoft.com/en-us/…/about-clarity | privacy faq : learn.microsoft.com/en-us/clarity/faq#privacy), which will record the behaviour of users on the website. Recording clics, size, and more....

Tibert OP ,

Ecosia doesn’t apply tracking cookies. And fingerprinting does not need cookies. It just needs to know what you are.

Device size, information, browser… And other shared info.

Tibert OP ,

Not sure using Ecosia has any benefit if using ublock to block everything.

What I remember : Startpage has been bought by an advertising company. So who knows what they could do with it.

Apple's carbon-neutral product claims called a 'climate-wash' (appleinsider.com)

Apple played into the greenwashing since a long time. For example removing charger for “climate”, “ecology”, while changing the cable port from a usb A (the rectangle one you plug onto the charger) to a usb C when first removing the charger from the box (thanks for bringing this s* to android too).

Tibert OP , (edited )

You did not understand.

USB A is the rectangle one you plug onto the charger. They changed it ot USB C when they first removed the chargers from the box.

Tibert OP , (edited )

Do you know what USB A is?

I’m talking of the first time they removed the charger.

IPhone 12 - 2020.

Here they are talking about devices having USB C for 2024.

Tibert ,

I don’t think you look at it from the right way.

AI is already in a lot of people’s lifes and they don’t even notice it’s that.

From your keyboard word correction and prediction, to power management, smart image edition and categorising and more.

And some things are done locally on your phone.

The increase in AI capability on phones can allow more things to be done locally, and maybe even get something like a local LLM to predict what you want to type. (LLM = large language model, like chatgpt, bard, Llama and others, they can be used for more than just answering your questions).

Tibert ,

Don’t use duckduck.com it may not lead to the expected result.

Tibert ,

This is worse than what the title says. It doesn’t after the search results. It changes the search terms you inputed.

It completely deletes what you put, to replace it (without anyone noticing it) with similar search words, but to get money from a brand or make you buy from that brand.

And when you buy or click on links, Google makes money because advertising and partnership.

Say you search for “children’s clothing.” Google converts it, without your knowledge, to a search for “NIKOLAI-brand kidswear,” making a behind-the-scenes substitution of your actual query with a different query that just happens to generate more money for the company

First, the generated results to the latter query are more likely to be shopping-oriented, triggering your subsequent behavior much like the candy display at a grocery store’s checkout

Second, that latter query will automatically generate the keyword ads placed on the search engine results page by stores like TJ Maxx, which pay Google every time you click on them. In short, it’s a guaranteed way to line Google’s pockets.

Tibert ,

You did not understood what I said lol. Don’t use duckduck.com. Use duckduckgo.com

Tibert ,

I’m not talking about duckduckgo. Don’t use duckduck.com. Use duckduckgo.com

And for reddit posts, as much as I want Lemmy to succeed, I cannot ignore reddit.

Sometimes an answer I’m looking for is there hidded between useless comments (if it hasn’t been deleted or overwritten by the user).

Tibert OP ,

I sometimes get this too. It’s a bit annoying on mobile (not happening on desktop), but I often just need to reload the page.

Tibert ,

I can partially confirm this.

The hdd is too slow for recent games. Tho older games do work fine on it.

Recent games, mostly AAA ones have a lof of texture streaming with hevy textures. So they wouldn’t be able to load them in time and either generate lag or missing textures.

Older games, even AAA, designed for ps4/xbox one generation don’t seem to need as much drive speed.

For file verification, maybe, tho it wouldn’t bother me much if I didn’t have space on an nvme drive.

What is college? Is it employed for middle school or high school? If so then no.

And if someone who didn’t get such eduction thinks they have the tool to distinguish between false and true, they are delusional. The more verified knowledge someone has, the more that person develops their ability to manage information and find if it’s bad or good. Tho that doesn’t mean that everyone has equal training or capacity in doing so.

If college is employed as a synonym of university, then kinda yes? Tho for myself I wasn’t really trained into getting the right sources. However the knowledge gained from the years of eduction allowed me to somehow manage a bit the informations.

However, I don’t think I would have been able to really avoid bad information without getting the university training, where I also learned sources and reputable sources.

Even now it can be sometimes hard to get a good source to check. And often for random info I’ll forget on the Web I don’t even bother.

Tibert ,

In France and other countries around speaking French, college is middle school. 11-15y old something like that.

According to Wikipedia, in most countries it’s high-school or secondary education.

In the US and maybe other it seems to be a synonym of university.

Finished some time ago afterimage. Pretty good metroidvania. I liked it despite some negative comments, I did not find many of the issues described, or very little of it. Tho I used a map to find my way around collectables.

Recently finished hogwarts Legacy. It’s pretty good too, but it’s cursed with bugs and not sure if it’s abandoned by the dav as there wasn’t any update in 5 months. Tho most of the game is fine without game breaking bugs or too visible.

I started yesterday GRIME. Another metroidvania. For now it’s a bit soon to have a real opinion, but it’s OK.

Using emoji is a bad idea.

Here is why (without a password manager which removes the hard, but not the incompatible) :

  • some emojis can be inexistent on other devices. So you may not be able to log in on another device.
  • An emoji is hard to remember if you need to type them with an alt code, while also being easy to crack.
  • For a computer, and emoji is nothing else than a character. So hard to type, easy to crack.
  • More likely you use an emoji someone else used. So it could maybe be easier to crack.

And you don’t need to believe me nordpass.com/blog/emoji-passwords/

Tibert ,

Scratching maybe, not sure.

But I saw an issue that the darker ones reacted in a more visible way with skin oil. And the phone was loosing color around the buttons or where people grip it.

The solution from apple is buy the new case to protect it, or wipe it frequently.

The new woven case is trash and gets nasty very fast.

For people not knowing French, the Nvidia offices were not raided by heavily armed forces, with guns or whatever shooting.

“Perquisition” is just some cops/people coming and getting into your stuff or taking it for analysis. It’s like a search in Nvidia’s stuff/software/internal communications. It required a warrant given by a judge.

Tibert ,

Some people may see it in some other way.

Tibert ,

For me it’s not the short video format only.

Each time I installed TikTok (for whatever reason or event on a specific channel), I was met with a cringefest on the home screen. So bad I didn’t even want to look further.

Also the app is a privacy nightmare and most like still is a phone spy, taking whatever is in the accessible phone memory and sending it.

Also due to the platform design, fake information looking as “real” and sensational is more pushed. So how would someone know it’s fake, I don’t know. Just reputable channels coming from. YouTube or whatever would be good enough.

Tibert ,

How would you even know it’s educational and real content?

Due to the platforms design, fake, sensational, and “real” looking content is more pushed than truly real/educational content.

Tibert ,

Well you just had to search better lol.

YouTube is full of them before TikTok. Tho maybe not interesting in your domain.
