Yep, Lemmy feels a lot like reddit used to. A couple dozen larger subs, niche stuff in its infancy (but growing), general nerd interests, slows down to a crawl at night until users wake up in the morning.

I love it.

A major difference being that the fediverse won’t get that “advertiser friendly” corporate sanitization with how it’s set up.

It’s nice not being advertised to or feeling like a product.

• This recent attack
• Regular DDOS attacks
• Frequent attempts to spam community creation
• That one time the instance got hacked and set to redirect to shock sites

Am I missing anything?

This seems like more than just a few trolls. Maybe someone really doesn’t want to see user-owned social media take off.

Agreed. Maybe it’s time to learn how to make a png so I can add some text to the mascot image. Otherwise it means adding the text manually, matching the alignment, and matching the transparency each time, which would be a pain.

Yep, definitely done with the purpose of people finding Lemmy and getting off of corporate social media. I wouldn’t do it for any site that’s just running a business, but for the fediverse it feels different.

That’s my thinking too. It takes like 2 seconds to add, so I’ve been hiding the little transparent Lemmy in any memes that I make or have to heavily edit.
