Since three things are a thing and since I'm weird and have my own take on this. Three things I have noticed since joining Mastodon.

That half the posts I see are clearly an incantation of some sort in some strange techno-speech, that I can't even begin to understand, but can only hope aren't being aimed at me.

The incredible care and kindness that a community of seriously disturbed weirdos and degenerates are capable of spreading, without any agenda or desire for personal gain, that I have never experienced anywhere else.

The sheer wonder and joy and no small amount of horror, of being welcomed into the community here and finding the acceptance and respect and sheer fact that I am finally being seen, that I have never experienced, ever.

It's generally a pleasant community here, certainly far nicer than Twitter ever was, and notwithstanding the occasional prickly person who will scream at you to stay out of their mentions because you politely disagreed with their Toot, however slightly, which does unfortunately happen.
What strikes me most is that, I'd say, the vast majority of people here are genuinely of the Left, or far Left, and it's such a nicer atmosphere. There's a kindness and desire to make things better, for everyone. This should be directly compared to other social media sites that have a Rightwing bias, where the vibe is hatefulness and the overall goal to subjugate perceived untermensch.
Those were thoughtful sentiments that you articulated though and I'm glad you've found your online niche

There are a lot of autistic people on this platform I've noticed, disproportionately so.
Also, I would say that my experience of autistic people generally throughout my life has been that they are that much nicer and more compassionate than neurotypicals. It seems to come with the territory. Which is not to say there aren't some awful autistic people, just they're thankfully in the minority. And, obviously, it goes without saying, there are some wonderful neurotypical people I've encountered also
