I need some new science fiction to read, who has some suggestions? I don't like military sci-fi. For reference, my favorite series is the Expanse, I also enjoyed Scalzi's Collapsing Empire, I love Robert Charles Wilson's books. I mostly enjoy space operas and unique stories about technology, for example I really liked the recent book Mountain in the Sea about AI and intelligent octopus. Suggestions from the awesome Bookstodon community? @bookstodon

@RHW @Jennifer @bookstodon going through a lot of stress at the moment, so I am reading the MurderBot series. It's just so good it bring me joy and relieves anxiety. Highly recommended series.

I've found another online store that respects the price I've set on print copies of my books.

Has anyone ever heard of bookshop.org? Anything good or bad to say about them?

I found my books on it recently and the site has good reviews online, so I've added bookshop.org links to the list that shows up when you click on one of my books2read links.

My books on their site: https://bookshop.org/contributors/owen-tyme

@OwenTyme @bookstodon I've ordered a number of books from there and it's been fine, if that's what you mean.

Eversion by Alastair Reynolds.

This is a lovely, slow book. Reynolds takes us through the time of a life lived on repeat, through the unraveling of the mystery, and to the hope of happy endings. Quite masterfully done.

@DejahEntendu @bookstodon I love his stuff, but sometimes they require a little effort because they are so big in concept. Eversion was enjoyable.

I’m no fan of , yet there’s one title I have no hesitation recommending to people who are. STAR WARS: THRAWN (UNABRIDGED), is a great showcase of how good the audio format can be, even for listeners who have no interest in .

Narrated by, Marc Thompson, get your copy from today, and follow Thrawn’s rise to power—uncovering the events that created one of the most iconic villains in Star Wars history. @bookstodon

@lonelyboy1977 @bookstodon The best use of Audiobooks I've found so far, is to listen to books you read a long time ago on, on a long commute to work.

I couldn't pay attention enough to a new book (ADHD), but having an a book I read previously playing keeps me from going crazy in slow traffic, plus I often catch stuff I missed before. But if I space out on the book, it's ok, I read it before.

Currently have the whole Neuromancer series playing in the car on my twice a week drive to work.

@NickEast @reading @bookstodon @bookbubble @books Cotton Crossing. A zombie apocalypse novel by @lilithsaintcrow which I am enjoying quite a bit, and would recommend. I am enjoying the standard tropes but told by a women author. It's nice to see the macho ex military hero being a decent person rather than a testosterone fueled gun shooting bro.

@bookstodon As we approach the end of 2023, I would love to know about the very best books you read this year. (They don't have to have been published in 2023 for your "best of" list.)

Sablebadger ,
@Sablebadger@dice.camp avatar

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon super busy right now, but City of Bones by Martha Wells should be on that list.

Born 99 years ago today, Shirley Chisholm knew she wasn’t going to win when she ran for president 48 years later in 1972. America wasn’t ready for her. But she was going to get it ready! The fiery former teacher wanted to redefine the realm of the possible and give a voice to those who were traditionally marginalized in the political process.

Okay, kids, it's FRIDAY! So whatcha reading this weekend? 📚😎📚

I've got a load of new books to read. I don't even know where to start. A friend gifted me a copy of the graphic novel Black Hole, by Charles Burns, so probably that and another graphic novel Flights, which has like six volumes, and somehow I'm starting with vol. 2. edited by Kazu Kibuishi. And I plan to fit in The Vaster Wilds by the incomparable Lauren Groff.
