Not to downplay this situation because it is a bad situation regardless but looking at the multiple articles that they have released on this and the lack of video that they have provided regarding it, without seeing the video it’s hard to say who’s at fault here. Well aside from the driver who hit and ran obviously.

It sounds like both vehicles had a green light at the intersection and I expect the second lane wouldn’t have been able to see the pedestrian that was crossing in the first Lane to begin with. The article States the vehicle when it saw the pedestrian “braked aggressively” in order to try to not hit the person. I don’t think that this is as simple as a oh there was a person waiting at the crosswalk so it shouldn’t have gone, a lot of these intersections also have pedestrian lights on both sides of the crosswalk. Every article is blaming the autonomous vehicle, but I really don’t think an actual driver would have done things differently given what has been released. In fact they might have actually made things worse by immediately driving off the person’s leg/ankle instead of waiting for the lift.

I’ll be interested to see footage when it’s released cuz I’m curious this was an actual mistake on the autonomous vehicles part or if this was a it did what it could not actually being able to be avoided

Yeah, I do agree that proximity to a DC is huge but I used to get it, would be 3-day shipping instead because it would always sit at the Warehouse 30 minutes away on that last day instead of being delivered but I would get it now I’m lucky if it’s a five or six day ship. The reason why I’m not entirely certain if it’s a distance thing, is because now it’s moved over to you purchase it and it waits to three days in preparing and then ships, so yes the shipping is technically truthful, but they don’t process the order within the same day or 2 anymore

same tbf, but this might be the reason they are doing it, they know a majority of the users only use it cause it’s there, and the ones who will care enough would buy the ad free. Less cost on bandwidth and more money from ads or subscriptions. It’s a win-win for them

especially with mobile phones now, look at iPhone for example, it’s so user friendly that if you try to do anything remotely advance you need to jump through hoops to do it. I had a sales person try to tell me that the iPhone was expandable because it had cloud storage capability, they didn’t know what a Micro SD card was and that it used to be able to go in all the flagship phones. Pretty disappointing

Pika , to linux in I Think Ubuntu 23.10 is Making a Mistake…
@Pika@sh.itjust.works avatar

There’s a lot of ridicule regarding this article but chiming in my opinion. This makes Ubuntu less appealing for me. Granted I would use Mint anyway but, the entire focus of Ubuntu is supposed to be to bring new people in. If I’m helping a friend convert to the OS from Microsoft, I’m not going to want to have to info dump “ok so you will also need x y z and m” for it to properly work. It will be hard enough to have had to explain the install process. This is without mentioning the live aspects of it. I always tell people “try the live version first and if you like it go for it” well if the live process is now a dumbed down minimal… what’s the appeal for new members. I think this is counterproductive to be honest, if I was looking for a skim distro I would just recommend another system, that’s the glory of Ubuntu and why it was recommended for starters, it just “works”

I know there is an approved post only setting, there might be a read only or admin only posting setting. Or they might be able to just restrict write perms for the database/files which would mean everything would just throw an error on writing but reading would bd fine
