I've been thinking of finally reading some Stephen King, but no idea where to start.

Go for one of the likes of his famous work, like the Shining or the Green Mile? Or something lesser known?

@fskornia @bookstodon Predominantly fantasy, with literary and historical fiction thrown in. I do like horror in terms of film, but never actually read any fiction

@flyblue @bookstodon Haha fair. I've heard a lot of good things about The Stand

LincolnRamirez OP ,

@acatwholovesyou @fskornia @bookstodon And a bit of sci-fi/Fantasy thrown in from what I gather. Definitely one for consideration. Thanks!

@fskornia @bookstodon Thanks so much for this! A really good rundown. I'm tempted to start with a horror, given he's renowned for it, but will definitely keep the others in consideration!

A spy thriller set in Syria. What could possibly be wrong with that? Well, quite a bit actually...

The shortlist for 2024 has just been announced! I’ve not read any of them yet but a couple are tempting - The Wren, The Wren and Restless Dolly Maunder. Shame Western Lane didn’t make it @bookstodon Announcing the 2024 Women's Prize for Fiction shortlist! - Women's Prize : Women's Prize https://womensprize.com/announcing-the-2024-womens-prize-for-fiction-shortlist/

My first five star book of the year, in a stunning bit of fantasy, where the fantastical elements take a step back and let the humanity shine.

I'm not one for resolutions per se, but rather prefer to set myself achievable goals for the coming year.

Thread below:

LincolnRamirez OP ,
@LincolnRamirez@mstdn.social avatar

My first lot are running based.

Last year was difficult, but feel as though I'm back enjoying it again.

Main goal - Complete the London Marathon. Bonus if I'm sub 5 hours.

Target distance run - 1000kms, at a push 1000 miles.

A sub 2 hour half marathon.

LincolnRamirez OP ,
@LincolnRamirez@mstdn.social avatar

Second lot - reading goals.

Last year was a great reading year, with 35 books completed, though a number of these were sub 200 pages.

Aim is 27, I want to read War and Peace, which I know will take time.

I want to read more stories from around the world as well.

This reader has decided to stay on for now, but this does suggest that it is becoming yet another example of why we cannot have nice things on the web.

In fairness, I have not seen much of the things described myself. It probably depends on what kind of books you read. I do not really read new YA fiction, for example. (I sometimes buy it as presents, though.)
