Chinese space firm unintentionally launches its new rocket (arstechnica.com)

The rocket was undergoing a static fire test of the stage, in which a vehicle is clamped to a test stand while its engines are ignited, when the booster broke free. According to a statement from the company, the rocket was not sufficiently clamped down and blasted off from the test stand “due to a structural failure.”...

There should be no statue of limitations for atrocities.

The Tulsa riot victims that are still alive are being denied compensation for similar reasons.

“Curbed immigration” means people from the Middle East and Africa, right? If a lot of Canadians decided to emigrate, something tells me people like you would be much less upset.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I think in the case of France and Europe, colonizing half the fucking world led to a lot of refugees coming.

Oh, lots of Algerians coming to France? Maybe you shouldn’t have conquered fucking Algeria and given them a reason to.

FlyingSquid ,

And there it is. They’re too “different” to be allowed to emigrate to Europe.

Despite Europe going over there and “civilizing” them when they invaded all of their countries and ran them for years.

I can’t believe there are enough customers for all this trafficking.

In this world of incels and similar men who think they are entitled to sex, I can entirely believe it.

Meta’s global revenue last year was $134 billion. It would have to be a historic fine to even make a dent. I’m not hopeful. This will be another “cost of doing business” situation.

Ayn Rand wrote a very silly book about how the government was interfering with railroads and how that was a terrible, terrible thing.

It’s always a good day when something Ayn Rand suggested is once again shown to be utter nonsense.

Because she threw liquid at him and he punched her. Seems like two different levels of severity.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

How is throwing liquid violence? We aren’t talking about acid or even urine. At least they did not claim such things.

If throwing liquid was violence, every asshole who pissed a woman off on a date would be able to get her charged.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

First of all, assault and violence are not the same thing.

Secondly, that’s about Arizona law and this happened in New York City.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Are you trying to claim that throwing liquids at somebody you dislike is legal in NY?

Considering, as you pointed out, the woman wasn’t charged, it sounds like it very well might be.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

I’m afraid you’re the one who is making the claims. As I said, it might be legal. You’re the one insisting it isn’t. I’m not a lawyer. You seem to be one. Are you? In New York City? Otherwise maybe there’s a legal reason she wasn’t charged that neither you or I are aware of.

Ah, high school bigotry.

I knew a kid in high school who came up to me almost every single day and told me with a big smile that I was going to hell because my people killed Jesus.

Then one day, he came up to me and looked a little sad and said, “we got a new pastor at my church. He says Jews are the chosen people and you’re going to heaven.”

I didn’t think it was worth ever telling him I didn’t believe either place existed.

And while we’re on school, my daughter’s right wing fuck of a sixth grade teacher just started to my daughter about Jews and Judaism unprompted one day. My daughter is half-Jewish, doesn’t ever talk about it, and she’s an atheist. She was really confused how she knew. I know exactly how she “knew.” She took one look at me, saw the nose and the hair, and made a lucky assumption. I might as well have come in with a yarmulke and prayer shawl.

And although I cannot prove it, I suspect that’s why she started getting singled out for little things here and there that other kids weren’t singled out on at all. I had definitely been in that position with my own teachers, so maybe I was being too sensitive on that part, but it felt like it.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

So in some cases it is less worth talking about: when it’s disingenuous and the impact is to support the genocide.

That is not what the person I am talking to is saying. They aren’t saying it is a some cases issue. They are saying it shouldn’t be discussed at all and there reasons are that other people get treated worse than Jews are treated and that Palestinians are the victims of genocide. Neither of those are a reason not to discuss actual bigotry that happens against Jews and all other minority groups.

Suggesting any form of bigotry can just be ignored because something more important is going on in another place is ludicrous- unless you mean to suggest that the reason it can be ignored is that the people who are the subject of that bigotry deserve it because they are responsible for that more important thing. I assume you don’t think that. I can’t say the same for the person I was replying to.

FlyingSquid ,
@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

And yet, long before Israel started this genocide, I have been told that about every news story about antisemitism no matter what has happened.

Even after Tree of Life, which you brought up, I was told that the news was talking too much about that when Palestinians were suffering as if you couldn’t talk about both.

@FlyingSquid@lemmy.world avatar

Word Cookies. I absolutely love it. You can pay for things, but it is absolutely not necessary and is basically only if you feel the need to use boosts that allow you to cheat your way past the level. I think it costs $2 to go ad-free.

It does give you regular popups asking if you want to buy coins, which I admit is annoying, but they are unnecessary to enjoy the game. There’s also endless opportunities to get coins and other boosts for free. I have something like 80,000 coins and dozens of boosts and other than the $2 to go ad-free, I’ve never given them any money.

You do have to have certain word skills to enjoy it as much as I do. If you’re the sort who can crush it at Boggle, it’s the game for you.
