Douglas Adams 'SEP Field' gag worked on the ancient principle of "it's funny 'cos it's true' - which is why I was DELIGHTED to see it referenced in context and entirely on point in @debcha 's really excellent and thought-provoking "How infrastructure works: inside the systems that shape our world". Read this book and you will never look at the things you can't see the same way ever again.
