Did you have a goal for 2023? Did you meet it? I did not have a goal; but, I did read quite a few books over 2023. I cannot say how many exactly as I did not keep a written record. Is keeping a record important? Should keeping a record be my for 2024?

I miss the days when I could just pick up a printed and start . At present I have usually to scratch around for my ; then I have to locate my light. Once all of these 'measures' have been taken, I can start to the . Usually by this time my initial enthusiasm for has greatly dissipated.

@TammyGentzel @bookstodon I just do not get the same experience with as I do with printed books. Perhaps I am just too old fashioned but thank you for the suggestion.

Finished Maame by Jessica George. The whole idea of a debut novel amazes me. Like, I know everyone has to start somewhere, but when the first thing is this interesting and relatable, it’s just like, wow. (3/5)

Started and finished Ember and the Lost Creatures, by Jason Pamment. Stunningly illustrated. The story is a great start but feels unfinished and unedited. Less “this is so good, I want more” and more “wait, where’s the rest?” What’s there is worth reading! (2.5/5)

I just binged on Silo, the Apple TV series, and it's so hooking. Kind of a fresh take on dystopia. Now I want to read the books, they are by Hugh Howey, and I wonder if they are worth a read? Anyone got an insight?

I tend to gravitate to set in bookstores or libraries. Once Upon A Tome: The Misadventures of a Rare Bookseller by Oliver Darkshire is a bit off that mark, but still very good. The author has a dry and self-deprecating sense of humor, and I find myself chuckling at his deadpan delivery. Reminds me a bit of Hugh Grant, if Grant was forced to work with the public. It comes off as "very British" to this American (not a bad thing). @bookstodon

Hullo friends, and all those of you still enjoying Dec 25! I got another book, which will also go straight onto the reading list for 2024.

I'm making easy progress of Behold the Man, but Moorcock is always* easy to read.

(* - Revenge of the Rose was utterly regrettable, nothing else in his decades long career.)

At this rate I'll have a full 2024 list before I've consciously picked anything!

How do you pick your reads for the upcoming year? How many do you read?

Love you all, Moriarty.
