If you enjoy reading, !Books is pretty active place to discuss what you’re reading and review it or get recommendations.
I try to post significant price drops routinely to !ebookdeals as well. I mostly post ones that I have heard good things about / read myself and really enjoyed and are valid at all 3 big US ebook retailers, Kobo, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon at the same time or Humble Bundles. There’s no rule against others posting deals they endorse for other regions or other books, I just wanted to avoid it being a firehouse of spammy links and I only shop US Stores.
I first joined Lemmy back during the big Reddit exodus of last year. I like many others wanted an alternative to Reddit, and I thought that this might’ve been the one. I made two accounts, one on lemmy.world and another on sh.itjust.works, in the June of last year that I used on and off for about 4 months....
#booksuggestions anybody know of some novels or series with themes including the good side of humanity? I really like #StarTrek for that, where the human heart is challenged yet prevails.
Not necessarily looking for Sci-Fi but not excluding it either. Maybe something historical or steampunky would be cool. 😅
@picklejr@books@books@bookstodon I really like #TheOrville for that. I think they went really far but beware that even if it starts as a comedy, it gets really serious and deep towards the end
But just because !books hypothetically exists doesn’t mean !books or !books have similar enough content. You can already view these communities from any instance. You’re essentially trying to apply something like federation on top of something already being federated. They can all have very different rules and different content.
So I’ve switched to lemmy since the reddit meltdown started, experienced quite some withdrawal symptoms, occasionally turned back to reddit, more often logged out than logged in. Now I am merely using Lemmy occasionally and by far not as often as I used reddit before. No more doom scrolling....
The issue is mostly having !books , !books , and then every saga/genre opening their new community, while there are probably a dozen posters interested in books.
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: !ebookdeals, !books

community to ask and talk about books?
Preferably an active one? Thanks
There is a drop in monthly active Lemmy users (from 65k to 57k) (lemmy.fediverse.observer)
It is probably due to a number of people stopping using their alts after some instance hopping....
Did anyone try to return to reddit and notice it just didn't do it for you anymore?

Just in case anyone is interested, Humble Bundle has a Tad Williams bundle containing 21 ebooks for $18. The offer ends in about 1.5 days. (www.humblebundle.com)

Let's aggregate the book sublemmys!
I’m thinking we should have a central post for all the book sublemmys so we can easily find them. The ones I’m aware of are:...
