I built a fightstick the other week! Mostly for Street Fighter 6, though I have played some other 2D games including Hades and River City Girls with it as well....
I think the most common answer is going to be Tears of the Kingdom, and that is one for me that stands out for sure, but I will try to add some more unique inputs as well. Many are games that came out longer than a year ago, but i didnt get around to playing until more recently....
Hades really is a banger. I cannot wait for Hades 2, my goodness.
Another perfect game for me is Outer Wilds. It’s hard to really get across the emotional impact it has on you.
Unfortunately due to the nature of the game, you can only really ever play it once. You are able to complete the game immediately, but the whole point is you discover clues as you explore that eventually build up to a point where it all clicks together, and suddenly you know what you must do.
Go in completely blind. Play on your own with your headphones on and get truly immersed. Try not to look up any guides. If you can get there on your own it’s truly satisfying.
When people say videogames are stupid I think of this game and feel sorry for what these people miss out on!
Edit: Oh mechabellum too - great shout. It’s criminal how small the player base is for such an addictive and fun game.
I absolutely adore how Hades is balanced across an impossibly broad skill range. With some practice, even more casual players can eek out a win and then you have these absolute top 0.0000001% players that can chase challenges like this. Very few titles have achieved anything remotely close. Kudos to the player here raising the bar and let’s see if anyone can string two of these back to back.
I’m looking for some nice local co-op games for 2-4 players. Please tell me your favourite ones that work well with controllers on a docked Steam Deck!...

I hate them all… But I like the looks of Go, just wish it hade the properties of Rust. And I don’t mind Python for scripting. And I know too much and too little C++ for my own good.
I bought a expensive Ecotank because I loved the Idea of not having cartridges. To fill the tanks you still need cartridges though, so you still have the waste. No Eco in sight.
The paper in- and outlets were very narrow, what made refilling paper a hassle.
The software was very clunky, some cleaning programs did not work. After a year the prints became quite poor.
Another year later this print heads were clogged, no matter how much alcohol we poured on it. I threw the whole thing away. Never again.
The HP I hade a couple years ago was much better.
I am not saying this company is better than the other, I am convinced they are all the same. Some products are better, some are worse.
I’ve been trying to get my DnD group to get BG3 or Gloomhaven digital (while we wait for our copy of Gloomhaven 2.0 to ship next year) so we can play stuff in between tabletop sessions. Ravenswatch is what a couple of them joined in on. It’s the weakest of the games I’m currently playing but anything is more fun with friends.
Hades. I bought it a few months ago and finally installed it yesterday. Only played about 30 minutes, but love it so far. I didn't even know it was a roguelike -- I thought it was more like Diablo from the screenshots. I just bought it because everyone said it was amazing, and I think I'm going to agree with them.
I had fun playing it on PC, but the game is just that much more fun and immersive on the Deck. I’d say it’s the first game where I’ve noticed a big difference since I got my Deck last week....
i too enjoy top-down action games on the deck. I’ve have good results with The Ascent, Hades, and the Hotline Miami games. I think Ruiner will be good but haven’t tried it on the deck yet.
i also love the retro 2d beat 'em ups like Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shedder’s Revenge. Caveat: while good on the small screen i mainly did both with a group doing using local multiplayer on the TV. And we all used steam controllers because i am among the dozens who love those. put it all together and it’s like having a steam console.
Dude, I remember people going OFF on Returnal not offering any saves and people having to keep their consoles in rest mode for days at an end because they wouldn’t want their runs to end. I kept arguing with people on rexxit that any respectable rogue-lite/-like has a save function - STS, Hades, Dead Cells - yet they still kept arguing that implenting saves would “ruin the vision of the game” and “make it too easy”.
Guess what Housemarque did: they added a save on exit option. You can now suspend your run and finish it whenever. Not having to potentially brick your console just because you can’t save mid-game sure is a boon lol. The game sure got a lot easier with this implemented. /s
I mean… sure if you only play games that have that same feeling?
Like oh no BG3 is just elves & Brittania… Duh?
So play WotR and at least go to the Abyss?
Or play any game based not on Tolkien lore? There’s a ton of games based on different mythologies: Raji, Prince of Persia, Tribes of Midgard, Hades, Wo Long, etc.
Or just play games set in just completely different worlds? Pyre/Transistor/Bastion are all interesting worlds. Remnant I/II is a neat concept. etc. More playful stuff like Cuphead/Death’s Door, etc.
Or look at some MMO’s if you want larger worlds with different influence? Guild Wars 2 is pretty decent as far as a good variety with its world/races for example, even if its still similar to a generic fantasy setting.
I was on the edge buying the thing and told myself that if I use it 50 hours it’s a reasonable purchase. Now I’m sporting closer to 200h within one year I could not be happier....
I could have written this word for word. Haven’t quite gotten to thinking about selling mine, but not really sure why I should keep it either. I thought it would be a good way to motivate me to play older and indie games, but I’ve been staying busy with AAA games on my main rig.
edit to add: it has gotten me into playing Hades every now and then so it worked for that at least.
I remember this game. I was to young to get very far and found it way too challenging for my age (I was like under 10 so understandably not the audiance).
I just remembering really wishing I could understand it because they graphics where really cool and whimsical.
It’s a shame no one whould pick it up. It’d have been excellent for somthing like super gaint games as they seem to have a great isometric engine built and Darren Korbs music style whould fit perfectly. I guess they’re busy with a Hades sequel though.

I hate that everything now is a subscription service instead of buying it and do whatever you want.

Pet peeve, games that won't let you save
I wish all games would just let you save whenever you want to! Why is using checkpoints and auto saves so common?...
