“With me and for me”: Perspectives of Service Users with Complex Health and Social Needs on Mental Health Care

Abstract

Individuals facing physical and mental multimorbidity and social marginalization are considered to have “complex health and social needs.” This study seeks to address the following question: what mental health care experiences are valued by individuals with complex health and social needs? Semi-structured interviews were conducted with fifteen individuals experiencing complex health and social needs, including homelessness. Interview data was analyzed using an interpretive description approach. Participants valued services and providers who cared with them and for them. Care for service users with complex needs required flexible processes and individualized care planning and treatment. Care with service users demanded genuine, collaborative interpersonal interactions. These elements were evident across steps in an episode of care, from intake through assessment and treatment to transitions and discharge. These findings highlight particular challenges in operationalizing evidence-based care in mental health care for people with complex health and social needs.

Looking to dip my toes into Linux for the first time. I have a 2016 Intel MacBook Pro with pretty solid specs collecting dust right now that I think I’m going to use. Research so far has indicated to me that the two best options for me are likely Mint or Elementary OS. Does anyone have any insight? Also open to other OS’s. I would consider myself decently tech savvy but I am not a programmer or anything. Comfortable dipping into the terminal when the need arises and all that.

If you’re white “socialist” in the West who thinks Hamas is chill & you applaud their murder & kidnap of Israeli civilian, you aren’t a socialist. You’re not an internationalist.

You’re an orientalist in the classic white European sense of the word, and one who dislikes Jews.

@theautisticcoach@neurodifferent.me avatar

@rml Blake, I’m sorry to say but your comment is out of line. It’s ignorant and untrue. I am a life long activist for Palestinian rights. I do not condone the genocide of the Palestinian people and do not equate anti-Zionism to antisemitism. I spend my days and nights promoting the delinking of those two things and am attacked daily by the Zionist right for it. That you would accuse me of that shows your bad faith and belief that anyone who doesn’t support Hamas is in fact the enemy of the Palestinians. Your claim that Hamas is the only Palestinian resistance to the State of Israel and Zionism is false. This is NO DIFFERENT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, or FORM to those who make the actually antisemitic claim that “all Jews are supporters of the State of Israel and that the State of Israel speaks for all Jews”. This is false. The Left opposition to Hamas is consistently put down, harassed, arrested, and killed. Hamas is NOT the resistance, the only resistance, and DOES NOT speak for all Palestinians.

Your own orientalist outlook shows with your outrageous and asinine post from your discussions of shihsa smoking to your mention of the Samaritans (who are not Jews, BTW). Your orientalist outlook fails to mention Hamas’s actual charter (not the 2017 fake one used to appease people like you) which is still the de facto position of its members and supporters, save some reformers. Your orientalist outlook ignores Hamas’ leaders domination of the Palestinian working class from their luxury homes in Doha. Shameful.

I encourage you to read my MANY posts on this issue, including over the past few days. Your aggressive and false accusations over my views and beliefs are EXACTLY what my previous post was about. Be well.

You're just making stuff up! The left of the resistance is the PFLP, which is in an alliance with Hamas since the 2017 prisoner hunger strikes!

The most widely beloved leftist leader in Palestine of the past decade is Basel al-Araj, a comrade of mine, was murdered by the IDF in collaboration with the PA during an operation in Balata camp, while being hosted in a Hamas safe house. I was in Nablus when it happened!

Not mention Nizar Banat, the most inspiring PFLP voice of recent times who advocated unity of Hamas and PFLP, and was subsequently assassinated by the PA.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Problem with WiFi driver in arch linux

Hi everyone

I've been trying to solve a problem with my arch (endeavour) instalation and wanted to know if anyone here can help

Everything is working well, excepting the WiFi connection. It is extremely slow, sometimes disconnecting from the network, and in the task bar, the WiFi icon shows that the signal strength is weak, although the router is in the same room. Switching between r8168 and r8169 as recommended doesnt work. Any ideas?

nirogu OP ,

@Rustmilian @linux Yeah, it's close to impossible to find documentation on what to do here. I'm trying to find out how is it that Fedora works well with the same hardware, and even considering changing the card itself, but for the moment at least my connection is much more stable after setting the iwlwifi.conf file
Once again, thank you for your help!

It's fascinating how flawed the we played as kids were; was primitive, and they couldn't do updates.

@schizanon @gaming That’s part of why I’m always surprised at how much people will rail on bugs in games now. I mean sure if a bug makes a game literally impossible to complete, rail away. But half the stuff people complain about are things that when I was a kid would have been treated as hilarious quirks and possibly things vital to the ability to speed run the games.

Mini-thread 🧵 Just wrapping up the Studies Association conference in beautiful Montreal (with less than beautiful weather)

I have to say: an overstuffed program with 32 (!) concurrent sessions, starting at 8 a.m. (!) is just idiotic: the laudable desire to include as many talks as possible (ppl need to give talks in order to get funding to travel) becomes counterproductive at some point. The fact that some panels on related topics were given the same time slot also makes no sense 😩 1/n

Earlier this year I went to the post office to get stamps, and I saw a set of stamps in the Black Heritage series depicting Ernest J. Gaines. I had never heard of this man. Who was he, I thought?

I bought the stamps and headed home, but it didn't seem right to use them without getting familiar with his work which is clearly a big fucking deal if he's on a stamp. When I got home I googled him and l found his book "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman" on Libby and borrowed it.

ZOEconomy OP ,
@ZOEconomy@sciences.social avatar

Well I just finished the book and wow! Phenomenal book. I absolutely understand why he is on a stamp and I thank whoever advocated for him to be on a stamp for introducing me to his work.

If you also missed out on Ernest Gaines' work in your literary education... go read this book! And more of his work!
