I've been checking out a ton of PICO-8 games lately. One of my fav things that some game devs do is unlimited lives.
I get the whole "3 strikes and you're out" in baseball, and sometimes in life, but like... I don't want to die, I want another chance. Let me try again and again! (In games & life.)
I did see a game where it gave you 100 lives, and that's cool too, because you know what? We all screw up sometimes.
99 more chances to get it right is still pretty good.
I see limited lives as a design relic from the arcade era. You needed limited lives to extract more quarters from players, but we're pretty far from that necessity these days.
I'm in flow when I can focus on the endless beautiful forms and patterns of nature. I love seeing how things connect. I used to observe nature as a job (as a scientist), but I could not survive in academia.
I'm also a mom.
A year or so ago, I found out about neurodivergence. Reading and listening to the accounts of autistic people sharing their experience filled me with an overwhelming feeling of peace and kinship. This lead to a path of self-discovery. I'm also learning about ADHD as my partner and my kid are AuDHD.
an analysis of historical video game availability shows that only 13% of classic video games are currently commercially available across consoles and time periods, and only 3% of games prior to 1985
Some one game that comes to mind is one of my favourite RTS’s Lord of the Rings Battle for Middle Earth (and it’s expansion Rise of the Witch King). It was published by EA. Unfortunately they no longer have the license for LOTR content so they can’t legally sell this game and you can’t buy it. Thankfully it’s still alive due to the piracy community and you can download a copy with all the cracks and whatnot.
HOW, Bobby?
Explain to me EXACTLY how Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard will ENABLE competition?
You ARE the “entrenched market leaders,” you unlikeable buffoon. #gaming
@Graham_LRR I love the “our merger will benefit workers…” as if Microsoft won’t immediately layoff hundreds or thousands of Activision Blizzard employees like it’s done to most other parts of its business for the better part of the last few years.
I noticed on the https://joinmastodon.org/servers that we aren't in any categories. There's #Hobby, #Gaming or #Technology categories where the other anime/manga focused servers are on (anime.kona.moe, urusai.social, ani.work). :blobfoxbongo:
Hey there fellow mastodoner
when posting to lemmy, your 1st sentence will be the title of the post
any text on the 2nd and next sentences will be part of the body
so I'd suggest placing the @ (tag/mention) after the 1st sentence
