Want to make cool rustic designs? Special cowboy fonts can give that old western look. But nice cowboy fonts usually cost money.

Well good news! I found a huge stash of awesome free western fonts for you at FontGratis.com. Keep reading and I'll explain more about them.

What Makes a Font Western?

When you think cowboy fonts, you probably picture old saloon signs with rough wood letters. Cowboy-style fonts have:

Distressed textures
Serif and display faces
Engraved decorative fonts
Messy handwritten scripts
Southwestern tribal clay designs
These make logos, shirts, etc. have that vintage cowboy spirit! Bold sans serifs work too for modern western vibe.

Get Quality Western Fonts

Most places charge for cowboy fonts. But Font Gratis has every type 100% free!

They have:

Old woodgrain fonts like saloon signs
Outlaw script fonts for wanted posters
Native Southwest pottery lettering
Ornate Tuscan designs for brands
Full western font families for all needs
FontGratis has over 100,000 fonts with more always added. And downloads come bundled.

So, having played some 2.2 for a while, I'm starting to warm up to the swing. I'm still not a massive fan and way prefer the ship (which gives you more control), but the swing's long sweeps can help give sections with it a large, grand vibe (e.g., the swing section in Dastardly). Maybe my distaste is just a skill issue. Idk.

How would commercial translation and transcription models perform when faced with genuine news content, exacting journalists and the pressing demands of a newsroom? We devised a quality assessment to help BBC journalists decide.

I saw a quote, as I do every year, from @neilhimself and then remembered he had expanded on it. These are good thoughts in hard times to take forward into the new year.

Saturday, December 31, 2011 My New Year Wish Posted by Neil Gaiman at 8:58 AM A decade ago, I wrote: [Edit for character count see first quote] And almost half a decade ago I said, ...l hope you will have a wonderful year, that you'll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you'll make something that didn't exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And, most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), that you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind. And for this year, my wish for each of us is small and very simple. And it's this. I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, Living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something. So that's my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody's ever made before. Don't freeze, don't stop, don't worry that it isn't good enough, or it isn't perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.

I’m not really a poetry guy. I love metaphor and allusion and symbology and fingers pointing at the moon, but when they get dense enough to collapse under their own mass into a poem, my interest usually evaporates. “Just say what you mean!” a part of me shouts out in frustration.

This one from @neilhimself made me cry, though.
