Re: authentic & fake #Jews: the tragic #Gaza war has predictably led to bad #history going viral:. European Jews are descendants of medieval #Turkic converts--#Khazars-- thus have no #historical & #genetic connection to the land of #Israel
A myth, promoted by a combination of the cynical or stupid, sadly embraced by the naive & uninformed
Sadly relevant, as I will give a virtual talk about this at Indiana Uni this week.
Good to be cautious about that source (I am a fan of Wikipedia: it's just that one needs to know how to evaluate it, esp. when controversial subjects provoke editing wars). Anyway, I spend way too much time reading about genetics, but that is a basically accurate characterization. A prominent interpretation is that, although both males and females came to Europe, male intermarriage with local females created the genetic profile. Main point here, tho, is Mideast ancestry
@CitizenWald@Podophyllum@histodons though I will note a trend in recent years that when I do refer to the genetic data disproving the Khazar myth, the reply is along the lines of “so now you’re validating Hitler by using race science, huh?” #headsiwintailsyoulose
FCC to restore #NetNeutrality and also, hey, to protect our online activity from scrapping--be it for #ArtificialIntelligence training without our consent, or for even more nefarious purposes.
When the public comment period opens, for your own interest, comment--the vultures will, by the thousands, using bots/AI, so we need to show up and make sure our voices are heard, and our interests protected.
@herhandsmyhands@JiSe@romancelandia They fought real hard to put copyright above first sale and private property rights. they literally passed a law to eliminate 1st sale doctrine: the DMCA.
now that the situation they made is hampering them from committing theft (in their own words!) they suddenly have a change of heart. allegedly.
@RubyJones@herhandsmyhands@romancelandia Agreed. I just literally have no patience for these kinds of things. It really baffles me that a lot will even say it enhances productivity! I can’t remember the author now, but it was an erotica writer that did use LLMs and she was super proud of the fact. I haven’t read one of her books ever since because I simply don’t want to pay for generated content. How is This so difficult for others to comprehend?
I wrote a short piece on safe #menstruation tracking apps, expanding on a few tweets I posted at the time #RoevWade was overturned. Incidents of testing women for abortion drugs in the UK prompted me to turn it into an article:
This coin was minted circa 206 CE, during the reign of Caracalla. The obverse depicts the laureate head of Caracalla facing right. The reverse type features #Mars, naked save for cloak hanging from his shoulder, holding a branch and spear.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN... AND (AUDIO)BOOK BIRTHDAY TO #CHAMELEONMOON!
Narrated by the incredible Kyle Rocco East (and me!) and containing two fully produced original songs, my first published book is now my first published #audiobook!
I can't even tell you how happy and excited (and tired) I am, but it's here! You can listen to all its entire-cast-of-queer-superheroes-surviving-fiery-dystopia-through-rebellious-hope-love-and-rock'nroll right now, with your ears!
To my incredible Kickstarter backers, and everyone here, thank you so, so much for following me on this incredible journey!
(Indie Creator Note: I am going to be QUITE shameless about promoting this for the next few days, and would ask very humbly that if you're reading this, Mega Please, Boost! No algorithm here, so we gotta be it for each other! <3)
@samus12345@startrek I didn't see it either until the Memory Alpha entry for the episode listed her as there.
I wonder if it was a case where they didn't have the original actress and/or didn't really have any lines for her. So why put her up front and center to say nothing and then fans complain that everyone else in Nova Squadron was back and talking and she wasn't.
⬆️ Check this out tomorrow. Lozier writes perceptive and nuanced histories of French-Indigenous relations. This will doubtlessly be a great talk. #histodons#VastEarlyAmerica@histodons
