Me: Will the Matildas win the World Cup in 2023?

Google Bard: "Ultimately, it is too early to say who will win the World Cup. The Matildas have a good chance, but they will need to play their best football if they want to lift the trophy."

Me: Which is heavier: a feather or a mountain?

Google Bard: "A feather and a mountain have the same mass. One kilogram of feathers has the same mass as one kilogram of rocks. However, the feathers will have a much larger volume than the rocks. This is because feathers are made of air pockets, while rocks are solid. So, if you were to pick up a feather and a rock of the same mass, the feather would feel lighter because it has more air in it."

Me: Is Sam Mitchell a good coach?

Google Bard: "Sam Mitchell is a relatively new coach in the AFL, having only taken over the Hawthorn Hawks in 2022. However, he has already made a positive impact on the club, leading them to a finals berth in his first season ... In his first season as coach, Mitchell led the Hawks to a 13-9 record, which was good enough for seventh place on the ladder. They then went on to beat the Brisbane Lions in the elimination final before losing to the Sydney Swans in the semi-final."

So there you have it. According to Google Bard, the Matildas are still a chance.

Also, apparently a mountain and a feather have the same mass.

Disappointed I missed that Hawthorn – Sydney Elimination Final that Sam Mitchell coached in his first season. Sounds like a cracker of a game.

Brisbane will be disappointed!

Today is the 20th anniversary of my attending my very first science fiction convention: Torcon 3 in Toronto. Some memories of that convention, and thoughts on how the world of conventions has changed since then, are up on Whatever today:

@CherylMorgan @scalzi My first convention was a Yorkon in Leeds in '83 or '84. Other folks I bumped into there: Roz Kaveney, @neilhimself , and PTerry—all of us young and incredibly obscure!

N628TS (Elon’s main jet the Gulfstream G650) appears to be in maintenance. This is the reason for lack of updates. It appears he is currently using SpaceX’s other jet N272BG.

Keyboard issue with No Man's Sky on Linux?

Has anyone playing on Linux tried to use the Text Formatting Guide?

https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/qv6gy7/comprehensive_text_style_formatting_guide/

When I try to do it on Linux, every time I type < it gets replaced with >. So I can't do symbols or colors etc. I tested on my desktop Xubuntu (fails), steam deck (works fine using virtual keyboard), and windows 10 pc (works fine).

I am using a standard generic 105 key keyboard, the < key works elsewhere.

Final stages before submitting a manuscript and getting angry with the journal's citation style that's APA7-but-not-quite-in-a-number-of-small-petty-ways. Checked the stylesheet repository and found that a kind soul has already uploaded a stylesheet for that journal! 🙏 Unfortunately, it was created when the journal had their specially petty version of APA6 so I need to edit it. Okay, fine. And that's how I found that "the kind soul" happens to have exactly the same name as me! 😅 🙈
