For the first (ish) time, I'm missing the birdsite - because I've just finished the most incredible book, and in the past I could have tweeted the author to tell him how much I appreciated it. And I can't now. But I can still shout about it here. Every teacher in every type of context should read "I Heard What You Said" by Jeffrey Boakye - about being a black teacher in the UK. It's astounding. #Books#AmReading#JeffreyBoakye#Education#EduTooter@edutooters
Are there any other academics from the medieval studies field around here? I was wondering because most of the people here seem to be from the tech field.
@taoish Mark, I think you mean @medievodons with an "s" - much more active than the singular version!
(Maybe good to edit your post so as not to divert anyone into a fork?) @bloggingjulia Yes lots of great historians here: welcome!
I share the author's love of real books and have never succumbed to the Kindle cult. The statistics seem to be about new book sales, so I'm curious about about sales of used books, which are the main source of my supply.
If you buy print editions, which do you buy the most?
Good Morning Mastodon and Fantasycon! Hope you’re all ok? Today I’m currently reading the engrossing SF tale on Hamlet that is The Death I Gave Him by Em X Liu. What are you reading at the moment?
@RunalongWomble Hello, Womble. Just finished 'The Dentist' by Tim Sullivan, a UK crime procedural set in Bristol. Main detective character is on the autistic spectrum, which makes him very good at details and patterns but not so good at interacting with colleagues and the public. Compelling mystery, well-paced but not sure how I felt about the writing style. There was a lot of jarring head-hopping (jumping between POV and POV), often within the same paragraph. @bookstodon

Hello Womble, just started 'The blighted stars' by Megan O'Keefe. Fun space opera so far. Sabotaged ship leads a group of survivors to crash land on an Earth-like planet which is not as hospitable as they were led to expect... @bookstodon
The main theme from @neilhimself's #GoodOmens, composed by David Arnold, was one of the delights performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra and Huddersfield Choral Society at the #BBCProms this year. The concert was conducted by Anna-Maria Helsing.
