I used to see hordes of these around my house growing up, until we finally decided to do something. We put up a bunch of beetle trap bags and caught hundreds, and (perhaps more importantly) treated the yard to eliminate their eggs.

After that, I didn’t see more than 2 or 3 beetles.

These were such a massive problem when I was a kid every yard filled one of those bag traps every week for the entire summer.

But then they went away and we had invasive stinkbugs. Then the stinkbugs got under control and we had invasive lanternflies. But I’m not seeing many of those this summer, either, which means the next wave is due any time now.

I’m afraid we’ll see less and less insects every summer until we all die of starvation or exposure

This is what you do. Take the Japanese tourists to Paris. They will be so disappointed they will tell their colony how bad it is and they might only comeback if you host the Beetle Olympic games.

Interesting times. There’s going to be a lot more invasive species as climate change enables the survival of creatures who otherwise wouldn’t.
