Germany Is Seizing Jews’ Money Again: It’s fine, they’re pro-Palestine

A pro-Palestine Jewish activist group has had its bank account frozen in Germany for the second time in seven years, after the bank requested a full list of its members’ details in what experts believe is a breach of German law. The group suspects the move was triggered by its involvement in a forthcoming pro-Palestine conference that has attracted intense scorn from the German mainstream.

There was a thread about this earlier on feddit de and they were acting predictably shitty about it. The English version of the thread wasn’t too bad, but of course as with all things political, if you want the truth out you’re going to need to translate what they say in their native tongue.

As If all banks in Germany are state controlled…

DmMacniel ,

Not even all Sparkassen are state owned.

Silverseren OP ,

This one in particular is owned by the public, meaning the Berlin state government can control who is on the board and appoints the advisory committee.

So, yes, it is essentially state controlled.

What is “beyond legal” supposed to mean?

Frog ,

Independent lawyer Nadija Samour said that this was an unusual request not usually required by the bank, and was “beyond legal.”

The lawyer is saying illegal without saying illegal. Saying “beyond legal” gives her some protection if a judge does make a ruling that it is not illegal.
