“Downed its plane” is burying the lede lol "The aircraft was carrying captive Ukrainian military personnel who had been slated to be exchanged in a prisoner swap."

Russia’s Il-76 plane was presumably downed by Patriot missile system - source — TASS

31 Jan 2024 (archive link)

The Ukrainian armed forces shot down an Il-76 military cargo aircraft over Russia’s borderline Belgorod Region on January 24. It was presumably downed by a Western-made Patriot missile system, a law enforcement source told TASS.

“Most likely, a Patriot missile system was used. A probe continues” he said. Another source confirmed this information to TASS.

Il-76 crash

The Ukrainian armed forces shot down an Il-76 military cargo aircraft over Russia’s borderline Belgorod Region on January 24. The aircraft was carrying captive Ukrainian military personnel who had been slated to be exchanged in a prisoner swap. The crash killed all 74 people on board, including 65 Ukrainian POWs. The Russian Defense Ministry described the incident as a terrorist attack, pointing out that Kiev had been aware of the mission to transport Ukrainian POWs for a prisoner swap set to take place at the Kolotilovka checkpoint. However, Kiev attacked the plane in order to accuse Moscow of killing Ukrainian service members, the ministry noted.

grozzle ,

Only five bodies were recovered, which is about normal for the crew of the plane. There is no evidence of any prisoners. None of the photos or videos from the crash site show a large number of bodies. Russia lied, as usual.

OleoSaccharum ,

Lol the CNN story was based on an anonymous intel source. Zelensky was saying the Russians shot it down 🤣🤣

OleoSaccharum ,

“Russia lied as usual”

Amazing how you managed to lose multiple counteroffensives while winning the entire time. Do you ever get the feeling that maybe you’re the one getting duped?

As promised, here’s my audit of Oryx’s equipment loss tracking. Oryx is well touted by institutional and mainstream media sources for an independent and open source verifiable low end accounting of equipment losses in the Ukraine War.

Beatings, Stabbings, & Electric Shocks: Donetsk Militia Vets’ Ordeal in Ukraine’s Torture Chambers

Olga spent 120 days in SBU captivity. She endured endless interrogations, torture with electric shocks in a specially set up torture chamber in the basement. An electric current would pass through metal electrodes placed upon wet tissues in the area of the kidneys. “The pain was excruciating, impossible to describe in words,” recalled Olga.

On February 2, 2023, a Russian gunner watched a column of vehicles drive through the streets of Bakhmut, the site of what could be the most ferocious fighting of the Russo-Ukrainian war. The column consisted of a Land Rover of the same type Ukrainian forces routinely use for military purposes and several unmarked civilian vans. Severe shortages of military vehicles mean that “civilian” vehicles are pressed into service by the Ukrainian military in large numbers, often without even bothering to repaint them.

The practice is so common and accepted among Ukrainian forces that the far-right German tabloid Bild interviewed Ukrainian Army soldiers using civilian DHL delivery vans to transport mortars. The soldiers proudly posed for photographs and happily chatted with the reporter, either not knowing or simply not caring that they were documenting a war crime.

A brand new account whose only posts are pushing Russian narratives, hmmm I wonder what this could be?

I wonder if you might be a conspiracy theorist.

FlorianSimon ,

This is completely irrelevant.

And if we’re going to talk about irrelevant shit, I might as well oblige.

It’s almost tax season. It’s going to be a tough one this year. I think I’ll go see an expert to help me file.

I also wore green socks yesterday. Very comfortable. Best I’ve had in my whole life.

OleoSaccharum ,

It’s not irrelevant at all and you didn’t read anything I posted 😤

davel ,
@davel@lemmy.ml avatar

Of course we haven’t read any of it: you’re a sock puppet /s

If this were any other instance than lemmy.ml, the mods would probably have deleted your comments already.

OleoSaccharum ,

That’s true, one of the lemmy guys desalines has a good war crimes list and his larger list of essays is relatively good

Womble ,

Ah yes, totally got me there with the obvious logical link between liberals over egging Trumps link with Russia → no state has ever or will ever try to push narratives on the internet.

Pretty rich from someone who’s entire position is a strawman

OleoSaccharum ,

Uh no there’s a reason why you think a russian bot is working you on lemmy, and that’s the mainstreaming of the russia narrative

Federation is confusing and annoying, i replied from another instance first but nobody saw my account.

I made this account with the Memmy app… which isn’t very good. You cannot even edit

OleoSaccharum ,

This isn’t reddit (yet). No one here is buying what you’re selling.

OleoSaccharum ,

What are you talking about dumbass? Reddit still thinks Ukraine is winning. You came here FROM REDDIT.

user91 ,

Cute and adorable! Please tell us more.

OleoSaccharum ,

I don’t think that pointing out blatant inconsistencies in what you’re saying warrants this cookie cutter response. Seems like you didn’t read. Typical redditor response to disagreement. You should look over what I linked to.

84% of the world population agrees with me about Donbas self determination. I don’t give a fuck about the weird european countries and vassals of the USA

I don’t know why NATO liberals keep thinking they speak for us all.

Despite the video evidence and the fact that the patriot missle is a missle interceptor

ItsAFake ,

That’s what you claim.

kimpilled ,

Patriot isn’t limited to missile interception.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, known by its Ukrainian acronym GUR, published a video that it said showed naval drones assaulting the Russian missile-armed corvette Ivanovets on Wednesday night.

Ukrainian attacks on Russian aircraft and ships in the Black Sea have helped push Moscow’s naval forces back, allowing Kyiv to increase crucial exports of grain and other goods through its southern ports.

Ukraine’s army chief, Gen. Valerii Zaluznhyi, on Thursday called the development of unmanned weapons systems “a central driver of this war” in an opinion piece published by CNN.

“We must acknowledge the significant advantage enjoyed by the enemy in mobilizing human resources and how that compares with the inability of state institutions in Ukraine to improve the manpower levels of our armed forces without the use of unpopular measures,” Zaluzhnyi wrote.

The general listed three areas Ukraine should focus its main efforts on in 2024: “Creating a system to provide our armed forces with high-tech assets.

In the south, six civilians were wounded in the Kherson region, including a husband and wife in Beryslav who were hit by a drone attack while riding a motorcycle through the city.
