To someone living in China, this is just a giant smokescreen. The economy is dwindling, unemployment at an all time high (so high, in fact, that since October the statistics ministry is not allowed to publish figures anymore), inflation is high, private indebtedness on alarming levels, the gov had to save 6 banks from collapsing, and a bunch of shadow lenders did collapse, there is a real estate crisis, private spending down to a minimum, public spending increasingly erratic, and educated Chinese are leaving by the hundredthousands every month.

Their problem isn’t inflation, but deflation. As their output is greater than their domestic and international consumption. This leads to lower profit margins. It’s a huge problem, just not in the direction your implying.

In the other corner a country in the middle the most politically turbulent period of the last 100 years. Where every attempt at pushing any legislation or decision through is met with intense pushback and stalling measures.
Another important aspect here is that progress is alot easier when you’re one step behind and have someone to blaze the trail and give inspiration. It will be interesting to see if China can actually drive technology forward and be the trailblazers once they’re fully caught up in the coming years which they’re on target for.

I agree with the sentiment, though not directed at my post since I’m not disparaging China for their success. I’m merely trying to add nauance. You started the comparison, you made a point of beating down on what Biden (the closest analog to Xi Jin Ping) posted.
Like literally every nation and person on this blue planet China does some good and some bad. I tend to think what they do badly is more important, human rights and political freedom ranks very high to me, and I know that is because I’m steeped in western culture and morals. And I’m absolutely not saying the US are poster boys for those issues, if you check my post history I shit heavily on the US for their violations like supporting Israel virtually unconditionally or their butchering of the MENA region throughout the last 2 decades.
China has, coincidentally after they moved a few pinholes away from “hardcore” communism, raised hundreds of millions of people (if not a billion by now) out of poverty, directly in their own country and indirectly in neighbouring nations. That is commendable. They also serve as a balance to US hegemony which I value, we can’t have one nation that effectively could conquer all others, democracy or not it only takes one Hitler to raise to power in such a nation for the world to crumble, and we can’t allow that.
So don’t try to deflect my criticism by misconstruing my comment as unnuanced china bashing.

There is a very pissed off Pakistan that torpedoed its democratically elected government because Biden demanded that they follow US foreign policy.
So naturally the Pakistani army assassinated some journalists, disappeared a few hundred people, threw the former PM and his associates in jail, subjected them to torture, and then begged the USA for an IMF loan since all of that caused the economy to literally combust as everyone ran out of USD to pay for imports.
All while the former COAS is having a lavish trip across Europe, and the previously criminally charged PM is back in town like nothing happened.
Now, just take this story and apply it to practically every country the USA has even a tiny strategic interest in.
Basically, the only improvement from the CIA coup days, is that they just tell them to run it through some corrupt national court so Blinken can roll in the next day and call it democratic.
