oahi OP ,

Will the High Court finally let freedom of opinion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, due process, and other essential human and legal rights take centre stage in this UK-US extradition case? That is the question to be decided at this February hearing.

oahi OP ,

For years the appeals process was dominated by the factor of Julian’s mental health and whether or not he would survive US prison condition. Then after the Supreme Court rejected his appeal of the High Court ruling allowing flimsy US assurances, his application for a cross appeal of the ruling by the first instance court was finally allowed to be submitted - a document I highly recommend reading (Craig Murray published it this year). The judge then sat on it for the most part of a year before lazily rejecting it half a year ago in a 3 page document. His legal team immediately filed to have this decision appealed and have been waiting for a court date to be set for the past half year. It was said to be just a 30 minute sitting. This 2-judge panel court-date is the last avenue of appeal in the UK justice system to stop extradition to the US. Imagine being up in the air for year after year, always inching closer towards your biggest fear. This travesty must be stopped.

If you’re telling the truth, you need a damn fast horse

Armenian proverb

shalafi ,

Was stuck at my friend’s dad’s house, stuck on Fox News for a week while this went down.

Dad and his wife literally laid in their armchairs all week, smoking pot, watching Fox. Nothing else. And I do mean literally. They slept in their Lazy-Boys, never in bed, Fox never got turned off. Not once.

His dad was a smart man, and quite reasonable. Asked him why the biggest story on the planet, one that made Obama look bad, didn’t get a single mention on Fox. Not one. Over an entire week. Shoulder shrug.

Still can’t understand what happened there. Perfect time for Fox to go ballistic on Obama. Silence.

Can you tell us more about these people? Gen x or boomers? Were they always like this?

HowMany ,

Who? And in light of a felonious ex “presidente”, treason to be precise, why does this guy even show up on the radar anymore? Fuck it. Let him freely walk about the cabin.

oahi OP ,

walk about the cabin.

I don’t follow. What cabin?

Dyskolos ,

It’s utterly disgusting, that a guy like him would face >100yrs prison for exposing - amongst other things - US-soldiers murdering civilians for fun. While a rapist or pedo gets some years, if any at all.

unexposedhazard ,

Would the UK staying in the EU have made it harder for the US to influence this trial i wonder?

maynarkh ,

Not really, the EU is not involved in member states’ judiciaries. There is an office of the European Prosecutor now which is somewhat related, but it is a voluntary join and many members just didn’t.

Thirteen years a political prisoner so far.

explodicle ,

Hey in case any Brits need to hear this: he will not receive a fair trial here in the USA. It is a fully corporate state with a democratic facade. Slavery is still legal here, just restricted to prisoners.

Dyskolos ,

I would add your de facto wage-slavery slavery too. It’s just slavery without the beatings and you’d get a bit of money to not starve.

JoBo ,

Why would you think that any Brits need to hear that? Do you imagine we have any more control over our polity than you do yours?

explodicle ,

Yes, that’s the impression I got from the article.

Gather outside the court at 8:30am on both days.

JoBo ,

Can’t see where you got that quote from but if you think that a call for protest proves that we control our polity, bless you but no.

explodicle ,

Oh sorry to be vague, the second link.

JoBo ,

If you mean “turn out to protest” I don’t disagree but would note that this is made exceedingly difficult by the conspiracy theorists who don’t think he should be sent to stand trial in Sweden either. I strongly disagree with the decision to extradite him to the US but I can’t make common cause with the conspiranoids who insist that Sweden was a set up. He got himself into this predicament by trying to evade trial on credible charges of rape and sexual assault. Two things can be true but his supporters almost universally insist that they can’t and it is exhausting.
