AbidanYre ,

When the Kremlin is warning you not to do something, you’re probably on the right track.

asmodee59 ,

I wasn’t sure about this. But now I know that it was a good idea to arrest the guy.

givesomefucks ,

Because that website is named “Moscow times” I checked.

Despite the name they’re legit, they can’t even operate in Russia anymore, because they’ll be arrested by the Russian government:

Following the passage of a law restricting coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in March 2022, the newspaper moved its main editors to Amsterdam.[1][39] On 15 April, Roskomnadzor blocked access to the Russian-language website of The Moscow Times in Russia after it had published what authorities called a false report on Russian riot police officers refusing to participate in the invasion.[7][8] To make the website available within Russia despite blocks, it registered a range of domain names, sending links to the next current domain to readers via Telegram when one is blocked.[40]

On 17 March 2023, The Moscow Times said it has been designated a ‘foreign agent’ by Russia’s justice ministry, which accused The Moscow Times of spreading inaccurate information about authorities’ decisions, thereby forming a negative image of Russia. The Moscow Times said that the foreign agent legislation had been "disproportionately used”.[41]

On July 10, 2024, the Prosecutor General of Russia declared The Moscow Times an undesirable organization.[42] This designation practically bans the Times from operating in Russia, as anyone working for them or interacting with them (such as by agreeing to be interviewed) could potentially be prosecuted and sent to jail.[43]

Because that website is named “Moscow times” I checked.

It’s based in the Netherlands and is quite critical of Putin and company. It’s not Russian state propaganda, if that’s what you mean.

givesomefucks ,

Thought that was obvious because the next line literally says:

Despite the name they’re legit,

But I have been overestimating people a lot today apparently

greenshirtdenimjeans ,

Did you know the moscow times are not, I repeat, are not, russian state run?

givesomefucks ,

Yes, it’s literally the first sentence I quoted off the link…

Following the passage of a law restricting coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in March 2022, the newspaper moved its main editors to Amsterdam.

Did you reply to the wrong person?

SuperNinjaFury ,

Hey, idk if you know this but the Moscow times aren’t run by the kremlin.

givesomefucks ,

Not many people know this, so I wanted to spread the word:

Moscow times is not based in Moscow

gravitas_deficiency ,

Many people get this confused, but it’s important to note that Moscow Times is run from outside of Russia, and is not, in fact, controlled or meaningfully influenced by the Russian government.

gravitas_deficiency ,

Yeah, Putin basically blacklisted them, which is a shining endorsement in my book.

I remember some Russian propagandist babbling about bombs over Berlin when Germany send stuff to Ukraine. Dude, I mean…

  1. It’s Berlin. Most Germans hardly would call that a loss.
  2. Yer getting fucked by Ukraine on your own turf. Eat ass and shut up.

A couple of years back, a graph made its way around the internet showing how much capital cities contributed to the GDP of their respective country. Berlin was the only capital with a negative impact.

AFAIK this has changed since then, but still …

Danquebec ,

That… makes no sense? That would mean that the population of Berlin is not only not buying anything at all… but they’re stopping transactions from happening in other cities of Germany?

Maybe you meant to say how much cities contribute in taxes versus government spending?

Moonrise2473 ,

? Until yesterday weren’t they hating him to the point that he had to give away vkontakte and had to flee in dubai??

I suspect that the Kremlin has picked up on the fact that a lot of people around the world are not too keen on Paris going after the guy and sees the chance for a big propaganda win here.

New message from the Kremlin on what we should do!

Never have I heard a better reason to waterboard somebody.

I think it’s very important to note that Telegram was once banned in Russia, then Telegram and Russia reached some sort of an agreement, and Telegram has been allowed in Russia every since.

And they want us to believe he’s a dissident to the putin regime. I’m sure we’ll find out he’s an asset
