The Amazon has a 286% increase in fires in February

The Amazon recorded a 286% increase in fires in February this year, compared to the same period in 2023. The data is in the Monitoring of Active Fires of the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) and was updated until last Sunday (25).

According to Inpe, the Amazon recorded 2,838 hot spots in February 2024. In the same period last year, the number of hot spots in the biome was 734. There was, therefore, a significant increase in fires.

How is the data for February in other years? A quick Google didn't give me this data, but I gathered that the number of fires in the wet season can vary wildly from year to year, where more fires occur in El Ninõ years.

Rule 5: Keep it civil. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect!
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
