He was Education minister before this, despite never setting foot in a public school, and heavily criticised protesters during the very unpopular pension reform while he was already a millionaire at 25 even though he never worked a day in his life. That’s the point. We’ll never know if, at some point in history, there was a closeted gay person in any role. That’s why we always say “first openly gay person” in these situations.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday appointed 34-year-old Gabriel Attal to become the country’s next prime minister.
