I’d argue that the voting system is not a democracy, not even an unstructured one; it’s simply mob rule. That isn’t just mincing words - a mob rule is effectively ruled not by the people, but by demagogues who are able to sic them against today’s target.

Still convenient for simple stuff like keeping trolls at bay in an online forum, sure. But we need to keep in mind the limitations.

1:50 “a voice should be earned, not given away.” Close but no cigar; merit (“earned”) is only one of the things behind making a voice more or less important. Impact of whatever they’re talking about, and background, both should be also taken into account.

2:10 “I believe that you’re confusing opinion with knowledge.” - sadly that’s most people.
