Didn’t want to play those games as they’re proprietary but certainly would like to have a life enjoying games without Microsoft as an option.

Hupf ,

Don’t you guys have Windows phones?

Polar ,

I’ve moved away from a lot of Google services after the Terraria developers Google account was banned for no reason, and it took threatening the Stadia release of Terraria to get attention.

I’d move to Windows phone in 2023.

I understand why Microsoft gave up on it, because they were essentially choked out by the fact Google refused to publish their apps on it, but it sucks. Wish they kept going.

Now, they have the makings of their own shitty Smash Bros rip-off like Sony tried to do

FeetinMashedPotatoes ,

How is this a good deal at all? All these games have been going downhill for years now. I mean I guess they can still be cash cows but they’re not gonna be praised or loved anymore just for being part of Xbox

Maybe they’ll get better without Bobby breathing down their necks, I dunno.

quams69 ,

I was just thinking this, like, none of these games are even worth playing. Diablo looks fine but damn, they bought a publisher that publishes straight trash lmao

Polar ,

It’s easier to buy known brands, fix them, and get users back, than it is to try and get users to download a newly created series.

People also thought Microsoft was stupid for buying Mojang for 2.5 BILLION, because “everyone who already wants the game already bought the game”.

Ignoring the fact that entire new generations have been born and become obsessed with it, play on bedrock with the market place, and buy all of the Minecraft merch. Also all of the other games they’ve launched with the Minecraft branding since.

shasta ,

Because Blizzard used to be a good company that created legendary genre-defining games. They only went downhill due to toxic work culture. That is something Microsoft could fix. Even if they have to operate the studio at a loss for a couple years, they have enough money to do so. They have the potential to revive the IPs they just purchased if they make a few good decisions. Unfortunately, it’ll likely take several years to find out for sure.

To what? The bloated, rotting corpse of ABK, with Kotick acting as necromancer puppeteer? Nah.

whodatdair ,

Nah, the publisher that made WC3 and StarCraft… i know they were already dead but it’s a bummer to see blizzard so completely consumed by capitalism.

there1snospoon ,

I do mourn the death of OG Blizz. Warcraft 3, StarCraft, and Diablo 2 were a huge part of my childhood gaming experience. Even OG WoW, though what made it magical was mostly the friends made along the way.

But that Blizz died a looooong time ago. Started sometime around Mists of Pandaria, and the tombstone was set around the time Diablo 3 came out.

Kotick is out end of this year.

there1snospoon ,

Yep. One of the best things to come out of this.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Microsoft has finalized its $68.7 billion deal to acquire Activision Blizzard, the publisher of Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Diablo.

The acquisition required 20 months of battles with regulators in the UK and US, but Microsoft has closed its Activision Blizzard deal after defeating the Federal Trade Commission in a US federal court and restructuring the deal to appease the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in the UK.

“As one team, we’ll learn, innovate, and continue to deliver on our promise to bring the joy and community of gaming to more people.

“Today we start the work to bring beloved Activision, Blizzard, and King franchises to Game Pass and other platforms,” says Spencer.

Activision Blizzard made it clear earlier this week that Modern Warfare 3 and Diablo IV won’t be coming to Xbox Game Pass this year, though.

After the FTC then failed to secure a preliminary injunction to block Microsoft from finalizing its Activision Blizzard acquisition, the CMA and Microsoft instantly agreed to pause their legal battles for a remedy in the UK and eventually negotiated an agreement over cloud gaming rights.
