I used a public instance of Piped for a while and thought about selfhosting it, but the installation process was incredibly hard, to the point of being obnoxious, and in the end, it didn’t even work. I liked the features I saw on the public instances and would like to revisit it some time. Until there I’m using Viewtube....
Currently, I have SSH, VNC, and Cockpit setup on my home NAS, but I have run into situations where I lose remote access because I did something stupid to the network connection or some update broke the boot process, causing it to get stuck in the BIOS or bootloader....
I currently use an old (2013?) Intel NUC with a 12TB MyBook plugged in as a simple Plex server. I want to get a NAS. Right now at Amazon or B&H I can get a DS923+ w/ two 16TB HDDS for about $1000....
Hey all, I’ve been doing a bunch of research on selfhosting the last few weeks as I’d love to lean on more open source projects for my daily productivity & entertainment. My main goal is to backup all my personal documents, photos, and videos (around 1tb so far over ~5 years, so not too demanding) and host a few services to...
I need to put some order with the photos I take and I receive with my android phone. Just now I use Nextcloud sync client to upload and Photo/Memories Nextcloud Apps to manage photos....
I use homer as a fancy bookmark manager for my home server. But I hate updating the config file every time I add a new service. Are there any dashboards that allow you to update items with an API/using docker labels like Traefik?
I have a suite of services exposed using a reverse proxy (npm) protected with passwords, but I’m always a bit nervous that username/passwords aren’t enough – is there a way to set up 2FA either on Nginx Proxy Manager side or on, e.g., the 'arr suite of apps?
I’d love to find a selfhosted voice assistant to use on my phone, computer, etc. iOS compatibility is a plus. Does anyone know of anything out there that could fit the bill?
I have too many machines floating around, some virtual, some physical, and they’re getting added and removed semi-frequently as I play around with different tools/try out ideas. One recurring pain point is I have no easy way to manage SSH keys around them, and it’s a pain to deal with adding/removing/cycling keys. I know I...
I currently use a Droplet from DigitalOcean which gives me 1 gb of RAM, 25 gb of storage and a bandwidth limit of 1 TB which is priced at 6 dollars per month, I think this might be a good offer, but I also think I’m overpaying because the only thing that I use from that is Wireguard to get around CGNAT at my home (which I...
I want to make my own website, like a blog where I talk about tech and tutorials and such. Something like kerkour.com and lukesmith.xyz. Any ideas for simple but modern design?
but before I do, I figured I’d ask if anyone’s aware of any tools/software that covers my basic needs of setting something basic that may alert me if there are any intruders in the network?...
I’d like to host a game night for friends and family where we play games like jackbox. I’d like to self host the service and give anyone a url and possibly a user name/password combination to access it. I’d like audio and video support as well as the ability to screen share and have a text chat option. I know there are a...
I am looking into getting a NAS setup at home, but have to consider wanting it to just work and work for my family who are not technically advanced. They use computers fine, but being asked to open a terminal would require letter by letter instructions....
I’ve been considering self-hosting for over a year now, but I’m still concerned if the feds will come knocking at my door for something someone else does....
There are a lot of reasons not to give them your money. They’re assholes to the maker community and they openly talk shit on a lot of their customer base. That’s beside the point, though, really....
