Lemmy on a raspberry pi
Does anyone run their own Lemmy instance on a pi? How was the process of setting it up? Were there any pitfalls? How is performance?...

Hello Hivemind 🙃...
Hello selfhosted lemmy community!...
I am not a computer engineer or a software developer. I have never set up a server in my life. I want to set up a server on my old computer by watching videos and doing the same things that were done. Is there a video that will tell me how to set up our own server as if I were 5 years old? Edit: To host my own lemmy account
I know there is a version for nextcloud that works really wel, but i am trying to move away from nextcloud 😀 Alsof, i am looking for an arm64 version
Hello, I have been trying to deploy Lemmy on my Ubuntu server but got an error saying it cannot start nginx proxy....
Hey all! I’m looking for a solid and somewhat inexpensive US-based vps provider and it seems like all of the top 10 lists from media sites are focusing on beginner friendliness and web hosting which I don’t really care about...
Hello all !...
I’ve been running several instances nginx proxy manager for a while and using a python script I wrote to keep them synchronised but lately I’ve been having them crash more often than usual....
I’ve never had so much fun self-hosting. A decade or so ago I was hosting things on Linode and running all kinds of servers for myself but with the rise of cloud services, I favored just giving everything to Google. I noticed how popular this community was on Reddit/Lemmy and now it’s my new addiction....
When launching a new Lemmy instance, your All feed will have very little populated. Also as a small instance, new communities that crop up may never make their way to you. LCS is a tool to seed communities, so your users have something in their All feed, right from the start. It tells your instance to pull the top communities...
Immich, a self-hosted app for photo and video backup/viewing now has support for already existing libraries in a read-only mode....
Hi everyone! After having seen TechnoTim’s Video about it, I was trying to set up pterodactyl deploying the panel + 1 node on two different VMs running in Oracle Cloud....
Hi, I was looking at different reverse proxies (Traefik, Caddy, NGINX, Apache (mod_proxy), HAProxy) - I wanted to run two instances of a reverse proxy on different devices for failover. I do not find much about running reverse-proxies in a failover configuration, could someone point me at a resource related to these proxies so I...
Due to having to expose local developments (in progress) publicly to interact with other third party services or to show them to other programmers I usually use ngrok in the free tier… Which is an absolute mess because it changes the URL on each command (nevertheless it works out of the box and very fast)…...
EDIT: this is a full benchmark I run on my pool: https://gist.github.com/thegabriele97/9d82ddfbf0f4ec00dbcebc4d6cda29b3....
I dusted off my RPI4 and started tinkering with self-hosting things and it’s sparked a fire. Suddenly I have 7 docker containers running and I need more RAM, more space and I want something reliable with room to grow. I like small form factors but it doesn’t need to be RPI small. Any recs for your favorite hardware under...
I tried for several days to host lemmy 0.17.4 using the docker install instructions, but I was less than successful. The instructions seemed to be riddled with mistakes and and the docker-compose.yml file had some errors. I eventually mostly got it up and running, but I could never access the site through the nginx container. I...
Hi all, I’m running a small website off of a raspberry pi in my house. I have opened ports 80 and 443 and connected my IP to a domain. I’m pretty confident in my security for my raspberry pi (no password ssh, fail2ban, nginx. Shoutout networkchuck.). However, I am wondering if by exposing my ports to the raspberry pi, I am...
This is a docker setup, so to update all I did was change the lemmy-ui and lemmy versions in docker-compose.yml. Note: downgrading to 0.17.4 results in an API error instead, and still a broken site, so downgrading does not appear to be an option....
I think I’m ready to elevate from bonded 1G networking to 10GB. I tend to have used/old netgear equipment at home, purchased on the cheap. I think I’m finally seeing enough latency when trying to run OS’s on my proxmox server with storage on my TrueNAS that I want to move to 10G networking....
Edit: YOOOOOOOO YOU CAN EDIT TITLES HERE...
Hi there, I was looking for combinations of switching hardware and open source switching software. Stratum and Cumulus Linux caught my attention, but these seem to be focussed towards the industry and would likely be very difficult to run in a homelab. I’m not going to touch the likes of Ubiquity, but as of now the only choice...
Over the next week or so I’m sure a lot of people are going to try spinning up Lemmy instances - I’ve certainly been looking at it....
