Disgustoid ,

You know you’ve been watching too much DS9 when the first thing you see is that his phaser is on the wrong side.

cheery_coffee ,

That means you’re ready to edit Memory-Alpha.

He is limited… corporeal…

This meme is more wild when seen outside of linear time.

cheery_coffee ,

The only way to watch DS9 is in 176 simultaneous windows.

Hupf ,

Exchange of money is such a linear concept.

Yeah, I never really enjoyed that part

    cheery_coffee ,

They were interesting when they took over OBrien’s wife, I didn’t enjoy most of the Bajoran religious episodes though.

I also found it annoying that their incorporeal nature was inconsistent. They live outside of time, and they basically possessed his mother‘s body for like 2 years and forced her to have sex with a man and give birth to him so that they could create a timeline where Sisko exists. Yet they were surprised that he wanted to get married and they told him he’d live a life of pain if he did so, and yet nothing came of that.

    marcos ,

and yet nothing came of that

Oh, that’s a common theme in Star Trek.

I’m still waiting to discover how high-wrap is destroying the Universe.

    tias ,

You can always cop out of these conundrums with the “lord works in mysterious ways” rhetoric.

Perhaps they needed to act surprised and tell him that in order to steer events in the right direction.

    GregorGizeh ,

Personally I disliked the whole introduction of religion into the Trek setting, though DS9 is still a great show. It just felt like a weird step back in an enlightened future defined by knowledge and science to suddenly have “gods” fucking around

    cheery_coffee ,

Q are basically gods, and religion is widely present in our society so I’m okay with it.

I do skip most of the Bajoran episodes though…

    GregorGizeh ,

Fair enough, though they don’t have a religion worshipping them and are not at all very god like aside from their omnipotent powers. They seem more like bored Greek pantheon gods, pretty normal and flawed people with superhuman abilities.

Gods (as aliens) were a recurrent theme in TOS.

Remember Apollo. Or... what does god need with a starship?

    GregorGizeh ,

Thats a good point I hadn’t considered, it’s been a while since I watched TOS.

But I would argue that especially the latter was more a lesson that superhuman powers don’t constitute a god.
