Is there a way to search Fediverse?

Hi! Sorry if this is a common question.

Is there a tool, search engine or methods so search for a given topic or posts on Fediverse (lemmy, kbin, mastadon, etc)? I come across a lot of great discussions and posts. It would be great to find more about a specific things, or even debugger a problem. Kind of like appending reddit to your Google search to find a niche discussion or solution.

this shows newest Lemmy communities first and is searchable: lemmyfind.quex.cc

in addition to what others have mentioned already, there is also a kind of crude but still somewhat effective way to google cotent on specific sites: just put the site in quotation marks. If you, for example, search for knitting “lemmy.world” then the top results will be (usually) knitting-themed posts and communities ON lemmy.world

It works well enough as a starting point and has the additional benefit of tweaking the google algorythm in favor of lemmy ;) and if there is a theme you’re really interested in, it can’t hurt to check all availiable search methods once 'cause you might get different/more results overall.

There’s also www.fedi-search.com (haven’t tried it, but it supports various search engines in the backend)

It only works for Lemmy, for now. And please feel free to post any feature requests or bugs to GitHub as it’s still fairly new.
