i think im diabetic?? i dont want to be but its most likely

im having a panic attack right now because yesterday i ate high sugar food and honestly im scared for my bloog pressure and im diabetic now and i dont want to pass away, i really dont. ive had blood tests and it comes out “ok” but im still scared and angry because of high sugar food poisoning people and i failed my diet and maybe im diabetic now. am i diabetic??

So, judging from the “sugar” thing you seem to think you might have developed type 2 diabetes. Do you have any symptoms at all that would support that? It’s very unlikely you’d develop that at the age of 20.

Also, just a note, type 2 is caused by many factors but people are very confused about the “sugar” thing because eating any carbohydrate is the equivalent of sugar. You can view foods like rice, potato or corn as basically sugar, as vegetable starch is just a chain of glucose molecules.

TWeaK ,

If you feel like you’ve eaten too much sugar, drink plenty of water. Like a pint or so, not loads over a long time but a decent amount to literally water down the sugar. Water is also used in many of the biochemical processes so it helps metabolism.

If you’ve been tested and it’s come back negative, then you’re not diabetic. That doesn’t mean you can’t become diabetic later in life, but you’re not going to be needing insulin shots or anything like that.

Go away kid.

Friend, I mean this in the nicest possible way, with understanding as someone who has personal experience with both anxiety and insulin issues. I've noticed your name on a lot of threads which all demonstrate "catastrophization" and extremely high levels of fear over low risk situations. Levels of fear that are disproportionate. You need to see a doctor about it.

Anxiety isn't you being crazy or your fault. It could be something as simple as a chemical imbalance. You don't need to live like this though, it's exhausting being this afraid all the time and that energy could be far better spent on things that truly improve your life.

Please consider it, I know I'm not the first person to tell you this. Acknowledge the pattern, and talk to a professional. It's hard but very very worth it.

ok thank you very much, im very sorry its just that i once read on reddit about people having cardiac attacks out of nowhere and they had no symptoms or people getting diseases very young and i dont want to get that, im so sorry about that. i wish those people the best of course!!

fiat_lux ,

You don't have to apologise, you haven't done anything wrong. It is true that since people can experience sudden health issues very young, I was one of them. But if your only evidence for diabetes is that you recently ate a common food that happened to be high in sugar, then there's no sign at all that this is something you are experiencing. You have no symptoms of diabetes, and blood tests as evidence that you don't have it. But anxiety is a legitimate health condition too.

You shouldn't ignore symptoms, which is why you need to look at the symptoms of anxiety that you seem to be experiencing. A panic attack is not something most people regularly experience, and definitely not because they broke their own omad rule with a food that has high sugar levels.

Please, look into deep breathing techniques fir the panic attacks and doctors who specialize in anxiety near you. I wish you all the luck and best, I know how anxiety can paralyze and negatively affect your life. But the good news is that you aren't powerless to change it.

Thank you for being a caring and understanding person

fiat_lux ,

Thanks, I try. I know what it's like to have subjective symptoms of something larger and medically very real dismissed by others to the point where more permanent damage is done than was ever necessary. While I don't wish that experience on anyone, it sadly seems almost a necessary experience for many people in order to be able to engage others with compassion.

I wish there were more empathy, especially in lemmy.world comments. I had hoped better for the fediverse than the current patterns of hostility in social media towards others with different life experiences.

Rhynoplaz ,

I’d like to introduce you to my friend, Reality. I don’t believe you two have met before.

Op posts stuff like this a lot. They need a psychologist or they’re a troll.

glennglog22 ,
@glennglog22@kbin.social avatar

I'm leaning towards the "needs psychologist" part. I was stuck in a rut from my own bout of hypochondria for pretty much all of 2021, it was not fun. The constant feeling of impending doom and everyone dismissing my problems unfortunately gave me suicidal thoughts like crazy. I eventually sought therapy and it helped a little bit, but a lot of it just went away on its own.

OP, it does get better overtime. Quit looking up symptoms on Google (or other search engine of choice) and drink plenty of water.

It could be completely anecdotal but something about everyone getting sick with different variants of coronavirus and no real end in sight to a novel disease, it’s like a collective response that many people are dealing with anxiety and panic. A lot of stuff happened prior to 2020 to bring about this atmosphere, but I’m sure the global pandemic didn’t make things better.

glennglog22 ,
@glennglog22@kbin.social avatar

Oh no, absolutely not.

GARlactic ,

As a sufferer of illness anxiety disorder, what you’re describing sounds a lot like the thought processes I went through before seeking therapy for it.

You’ve described very little evidence indicating you have diabetes, but a ton of evidence indicating you have illness anxiety disorder. I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose you, but my suggestion is to talk to a professional who can.

@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

ok thank you i will think about it

Bizarroland ,
@Bizarroland@kbin.social avatar

I think that thinking about it is the problem. You might do better to chill with the thinking about it and just wait for your body to tell you that there is a problem.

Fill your time with doing things that are useful and meaningful, like dieting, exercising, improving your job and career prospects, socializing with friends, ensuring that you live in a tidy and well-kept location, and setting goals and taking steps to realizing your dreams.

There is a lot to do with life that isn't just worrying about How it ends

Ziggurat ,

Having the fear of having imaginary disease is called being hypochondriac, the good new is that it’s a legit medical condition. Have a talk with your doctor about it rather than with Internet strangers

TheLobotomist ,
@TheLobotomist@lemmy.world avatar

Calm down. Eating high sugar food is not healty but it doesn’t make you automatically diabetic. It takes years if not decades. What makes you think that you are diabetic? Did you test your blood glucose? How old are you? (If you are comfortable sharing)

01adrianrdgz OP ,
@01adrianrdgz@lemmy.world avatar

im 20, and i think im 68kg (150 pounds) but still i used tobe overweight when i was younger and maybe im diabetic and dont know it, and yes i checked my blood glucose, a person i know has one of those devices that cut your finger and the blood gets checked, and it came out fine but im scared, im very sorry

bighatchester ,

I don’t think you are diabetic. It’s possible for anyone to get high sugar level from eating alot of sugar . If you where diabetic you would get symptoms similar to someone really high on opium or being drunk from having too high or too low sugar levels .

PeepinGoodArgs ,

#1 Go to the doctor.

#2 Take a walk. Power walk. It’s healthy and fun!
