I may be a lucky guy. i have never asked for a raise, boss just calls each year and hands out more. if your emoloyer is that terrible it is a sign to find another job, waiting for them to improve or waiting to get employees to organize is just wasting your valuable effort

There are literally entire regions in the rural US where the only place to work is Walmart because they came in and deliberately operated the store at a loss to kill off all surrounding businesses. What do you suggest those people do?

Not everybody can be a white collar worker either. There are also literally not enough well paying jobs to go around. You assume everybody has the ability to just quit and move on whenever they want. And I'm saying this from a comfortable position, career wise, much like you. I just know how shitty things are.

BCsven ,

Yes of course. USA is in a rough place lately. And lack of independent business is killing choices. I guess my point was meant for those with possible choices, and just not having motivation to change employers.

You ARE lucky! And probably a solid performer. But young people need this info. You have to ask for the money. Why would anyone give you money for showing up to work?

BCsven ,

They (some) give you more to show up for work, to retain you. it.is cheaper to keep an employee than training a new one

My old job used COVID as an excuse not give anyone a raise (then proceeded to tell everyone the executive cunts were getting raises) and when I asked for a raise after I apparently “didn’t ask in the correct way”.
