It’s an endless cycle. You work hard to enforce your ideals, then when you have the power to make decisions you realize how dependent you are on others to facilitate action. And every one of those people wants something in exchange. Suddenly the ideals you sought to enforce become diluted by compromise, everyone is unhappy and there’s a giant bear called greed knocking on the door into your mind.
This was my father in-law. He developed sepsis from the foot they had to keep doing surgery on. On his hospital bed where he is hooked up to just about every machine possible, this man was on his laptop doing work and on a cell phone talking to this engineer and that engineer. After his foot was amputated, even on disability he was being called 24/7. He was the most important person in the region, he memorized every fiber optic line and location. His boss was treating him like shit to get him to quit, he didn’t like dad for some reason, so he pushed dad constantly and shamefully. Once dad died, they had the nerve to call us asking if he had any documents that could help them with a project, he was doing the job of 4-5 college graduates and they were barely managing. He only had his high school degree but the man knew his shit. He had an interview lined up at a new higher paying job, he was one week away, and he spent the last few months of his life crying from stress, hating his job, and just in near constant despair, the only thing that he was looking forward to was mine and my wife’s wedding. Corporate America is a vampire and not the sexy kind, the nosferatu kind.

A movie about Beanie Babies just came out starrimg Zach Galafanakis, one of those “true story of the 80’s/90’s product” movies, on crapple+. It’s ok to watch while looking at your phone and also eating.
I agree that the movie looks like crap but I can’t resist saying this, apple TV seems to be like old Netflix and taking risks on some shows that turn out GREAT. Mythic quest and severance that I watched a full season of. Currently watching silo and foundation.
I’m not saying it is a great service or anything just wanted to point out that out of all the current services out there it is the only one that releases content that feels like the ppl are just left to do their thing and no meddling like the beginning of streaming was. Now streaming is feeling more similar to how cable was creatively strangled.

It’s easy for really old posts to get necro’d in Active sort. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you use the “feed” to keep up with the latest then it’ll cloud your listings a bit. A lot of people don’t look at the post date right away (especially those of us from alien site since we’re still operating on old habits).
Hot also had a bug that pushed old posts up, IIRC? Maybe i’m thinking of Active; I can’t remember off the top of my head as I type this. Anyway I think Active is based on recent comment activity and Hot is based on recent voting activity. Nothing wrong with either, but I am honestly appreciating the “Top X hours” methods to keep up with recent news and events and to keep things fresh.
We’re still in the “oh shit activity has increased by a factor of a thousand, we need to make the database not crash” phase of development of Lemmy (and kbin) so I’d expect that eventually the feed sorts will be looked at and tweaked. Just needs a bit of attention to get what you are looking for at the moment.
Honestly that makes a ton of sense to me. The only real/sort of real problem I have with the sort from the “last X hours” is that I feel like as someone who doesn’t regularly check the site I would miss a lot of posts I wouldn’t normally see. That’s just my perspective. Thanks for the insight though.
