Your login manager should have the option to select which DE you login to.

Thanks. The login screen didn’t show the icon to choose an environment until I was entering my password, at which point I was going on muscle memory, so I hit Enter without thinking. Once I logged out, I was able to log in using KDE. Thanks.

Log out, and then look around the login screen for a way to choose your desktop “session”. The location and appearance varies depending on the display manager, but it’s often in a corner of the screen. (Lower left in my case.)

I’m assuming you installed the “plasma-desktop” package. If you installed KDE some other way, your installation might be incomplete.

On mine, the little gear icon in the lower right of the login screen doesn’t show until I click my name first. Then it shows up and I can change my desktop environment.
