To each their own. Thunar also supports tabs, btw.
For me, split-view is vastly superior because most of the time it reflects what I am doing: Move something from computer a (left view) to computer b (right view), in folders with perhaps similar files. Split-view allows me to see instantly if there is something in need of moving around. (That is not an rsync situation).
